Default Does anyone run a Y link radius arm?

Does anyone run a Y link radius arm set up,
like the Jeep front end kits available aftermarket?

I asked this question when I started into this and I have not seen it done yet. Something about a Drag link being needed to center the Axle

Drag links don't center axles, a drag link is a steering arm.
You mean a track bar... aka pan hard.

If a four link or three link doesn't require
a track bar, why would a Y link radius arm?

I think I'm gonna go with a Y link for sure.

Because usually the radius arms run parallel to the chassis and have no way to keep the axle centered. Mounting the arms with triangulation at the chassis should keep the axle centered.
Not 100% sure if that would work or not, I've never seen it done.

that still would not work for triangulation to hold it stable it needs atleast 3 arms, tried it you will need to run a track bar and the ylink in scale form will limit articulation.

That's what I ment. Sorry

As for Guido... Did you change the link mounts in the front so that they were not right above each other? In a real Y-Link they are not that way.

Here are pics of my old rig.

When ever I had the Track bar disconnected, my front axle swung left and right quite a bit.

You'll definitely need a track bar if your running a radius arm setup (which is really what those are). The upper links are sort of triangulated, but that is not going to keep the axle under the rig.

Another downside to a radius arm, is it does limit articulation some due to each side (passenger & drivers) fighting against each other when one side goes up and the other doesn't. In the 1:1 world, people that run this kind of setup, will usually remove one of the upper links on one side (just for the trail) so that they won't fight each other....but they still have the track bar....or on a real radius arm like in the older Fords, they will run a wristed axle which means it rotates about it's centerline at the mounts.

Are you confused yet? :-P

I never had any real articulation limiting issues with my 1:1 but a track bar is needed

The Y link is not a true radius arm in the pure sense. and I get more travel out of my short arm set up than that

A real Y-link? The only reason Bob (and the other companies) make them like that is cuz that's where Jeep put the link mounts.

The radius arms on Guido are supposed to be similar to the Cage or Duff arms. So no, I don't plan to make them like the Jeep arms. They flex plenty for a scaler.

Wristed arms and axles are lame, I hate those things. All you need are long arms.

hmm, I guess I am a meathead. The Bronco's are in a strait line aren't they?

As for the travel... I also got more then shown in those pictures. I just can't find any right off the bat.

No, just more of a Jeep guy than a Bronco guy. It's all cool.

Grizz's Y link on the Bronco is reversed than the Jeep would be.
The main links connect to the UCA mount in his design, and the Y short link connects to the bottom. This is inverted than the norm, but it does raise the main link up higher for better clearance.

Yup, a benefit learned from my 1:1 Bronc.

I would be interested to see somebody make a Comp rig with a Y-Link though. I think it would be interesting.
