Same as a maxx I would assume. First step is get an electric center tranny, then do everything that you would for a maxx, check the maxx forum for how to lock the arms down and such.

I started out wanting to build a Savage crawler but I didnt think it was worth it after taking mine apart. Your going to have to lock the tranny Change the spur gear to one of an elecrtic pitch. Your going to have to build solid axles. In my opinion, buy a Twin Force. Its 1/8 scale, electric and has solid axles or buy a TXT or Clod. What ever you buy, its going to take some modification! Good luck! |

Du wha? the savage uses 32p gears, all you would have to do is buy a 32p pinion gear for an electric motor and be done with it. As for crawling, what PWT said | |

Glad to see someone taking on that challenge. No offense to you CJ7 or your project......but I just wanted to point out to anyone that asks the question about independent suspension for a crawler. In the first picture where the rear wheel is up on the box, you can see one of the disadvantages of IS. The right front tire is shoved all the way up into the wheel well, leaving the middle of the chasis almost touching the ground! The wheel moves up and the chasis moves down, leaving virtually no center clearance. I'll bet you end up locking out the a-arms in favor of a solid axle configuration. Good luck with the project and have fun. |

A 32 pitch pinion gear wont mesh with the Savaage spur gear. I called Robinson Racing to see if they had anything available. They said the pitch was not the same. Look at the size of the teeth on the Savage spur and compare it to a 32 pitch pinion and it will be obvious. What I started todo was to mount an E-Maxx spur gear on the Savage tranny. That would allow the conversion to electric. You still have to lock the inside of the tranny. Spin the input shaft CCW. The output shafts spin. Now spin it CW the output shafts dont spin. Their is a one way bearing in there that you would have to lock. |

ok, i've made some upper shock/spring mounts which are higher and allow nearly full travel of the suspention, it doesnt travel all the way up because just like dirk said about the center of the truck coming really close to touching the terrain. my rear diff is jb welded, i'd i'm ordering the front spool so i could still uninstall and bash. i have a 56 tooth spur gear and an 11 tooth clutch bell with ofna clutch shoes and stiff clutch springs so they will engage later when the engine has higher rpm for more horsepower. when i get somemore parts in, i will be testing it and adjusting what i need to so i could have a decent crawler. i'm not going to make it electric. the mod thats going to make the most difference and performance gain in crawling are the diffs being locked up.

I'd say mod the suspension. Cause I got about 4 inches of flex out of my EMAXX when I had the stock suspension on, but now I get 8 inches of flex and all I did was buy the RPM Wide A-Arms and Team Factory's Aluminum shocks. (Well get suspension if you want some flex)

Sorry for the low quality pics but I took it with my binocular digital camera. Here you go CJ-7 you wanted to see some pics. Oh and by the way that box is 8 inches, I measured it. |

i measured the box that my savage was on and it is 8 inches as well. how high is the standing height on yours. for me to get the most travel out of the suspention, my height is about mid stance. if i stiffen up the suspention so get full height, it doesnt flex very well.

the low stance is good to keep the CG down low.

Yeah, also I have a wider stance because the rims I have are an inch wider. Hey CJ-7, do you have aim, if so what's you screenname.
