Default Does anybody use dig...or is this something from the past?

Is dig steering being used on competitions rigs or is this just an idea from the past that has been played out?

I'm not convinced it's a "must have" item to be competitive but it shure is handy when you have it.

I am in the same school of thought as he is. Not a must have, but handy.

So this would be another tool in the tool box, and if needed you have it? I know that 4ws is not allowed in 2.2 class, however there is no mention of "dig". Is it allowed?

Or you can have dig and have another thing to fail on you when your in a comp. From what I've seen most peoples dig setups have quit working in comps at some time or another. Granted there are some people who have it figured out and it works flawlesly, but most I've seen don't. Here in CO we're getting beat by rigs w/o dig. I would love to have it, but I'm not too convinced by the reliability of what's out right now.

I think having a dig set up helps your chances in a comp.....especially if the guys setting up the stages have it.

with everything equal in a competition dig will be an advantage in saving those reversing points when you need to work an obstacle (reposition yourself) with out using reverse thus saving some precious points

i was not a fan at fist but with the level of competition im starting to like it!

All I can say is that dig won the 2.2 Nationals. Granted, Gatekeeper is an amazing driver but I think there is no way he could have finished that course without it. I don't have it myself right now, but will in the future. I do agree though that it has a big chance of failing during a comp.

I went back and forth as far as dig/no dig. I got my kicked by rigs with dig by me having to back up. I got dig setup and running in my rig and jumped from 7th to 3rd in our Summer points series final Dig will definitely stay. If for some reason it fails I can drop in a regular rear shaft.

I love having dig, I just haven't found it reliable enough to make a good dent in my scores just yet.

Dig is when you disconnect the rear driveline from the front, and then the front tires "dig" you around. This can be done with or without a rear brake setup, that locks up the rear wheels, for turning on a dime, or sometimes it can come in handy when doing steep descents, but I just use my dragbrake for those. The advantages of dig are too many to count, you can turn sharper, you can move your front over to get the perfect line, you can climb ledges that would otherwise be impossible, you can use reverse dig to move the front end over......etc. I ran for a long time without dig, I even placed 3rd at the West coast Championships without dig, but I won't run without it now, it's too useful, and if built right, won't fail. If you are competing against people who have good dig setups on good trucks and know how to use it, it's pretty much necessary to be competitive. I learned that the hard way by traveling to ORCRC, they have the dig thing dialed in.

Here is an example of a rig that has a homemade "driveshaft disconnect", TLT Steering Knuckle as DIG Slider ,there is also the R2 tranny available from (I believe) RC4WD.

thats pretty much where i stand... its a reliability issue for me. the R2-D is the only setup ive been impressed by but ive heard horror stories of the durability of it also.
