| What would modded GD600s be worth?
I just cut down a couple of GDs for a guy here on RCC...the thought crossed my mind to buy up a few, mod them, and sell'm. But, what would they be worth? They're $13 from Tower (plus shipping) I'd have to get'm, mod'm, then ship'm out. What I do is trim the nipple off the faceplate of the GD. In our applications it's useless. Then I mark the output shaft, turn it down leaving a taper (square shoulders are weak points). Then I put a flat on the shaft for grub screws. What's a fair price? (BTW, before anyone tosses up "Buy a Blue Star"....I've already put money into the site ) |

I would say they are worth at least $30 plus shipping, thats a lot of hassle and work for only $20.

its more than a few mins of his time. and the machine and time werent free.i think in the $30 area is fair. maybe $30 shipped, or $33 to help on shipping. or hell since its so easy how about modding them and throwing in a free custom chassis for $17 shipped |

Ya I'd say $30+. It takes some time to set up the lathe plus the parts & shipping. I think just the turned down shaft is worth $15.

I don't want to buy one when i already have one so whata ya say i send you mine and you get that sucker turned down! how much would you charge not including shipping. To tell you the truth, I don't think I am willing to spend more than $5 because i can do it myself a different way that doesn't cost more than $5. I would say it but i don't want to detract from your sales.

its pretty common knowledge on here that you can do it with a file rcmfmaxxman. if they are done on a lathe they will be much stronger and accurate, not to mention cool looking.

then do it yourself cause i think they run about $10 to ship him yours and get done. i did mine with adremel and other tools and got mine to work. but there is that fine line that you need to be careful. if you get it all out of balance, you screw with your gear mesh. if you get it too small, it will wobble and mess with your gearing also | |
