| LED question
I have lighting from rc-lights.com. the LED's are attached with these fasteners. Drill 1/4" dia hole, insert the plastic holder from the front/outside, then insert the LED from back and install the lock ring from back. now, in a couple spots I can't or don't want to have these holders. Can I just drill a small hole, just big enough for the LED to poke through and glue it in place from the back? my main concern is that the two wire leads are bare wire, about 1" long and I worry about the Goop adhesive somehow messing up with the conductivity of these wires rendering the LED useless. Should I worry? Is there an alternative way to secure the LED's without these holders? thanks. p- |

Hot glue works fine and will not effect the connectors.

cool, so you'd recommend that over the Goop adhesive then? Thanks. pablo- |

I've never had a light system fall apart on any spot using hot glue over the years. Even ran wires down indented body feature channels then hot glued them over, ran a wet, hard rubber glove along it to smooth it out then sprayed it to blend, completely hiding the wiring between points. Depending on the body. XXX industrial strength is the way to go, always seem to be fighting that little cobweb stringy on the way out though, lol. Think about how much before though. A dab on the bulb/wire area will hold and seal without conductivity, and a dab here and there will hold the wire fine. If you ever have to rewire less can be better as it can obviously take some paint off of lexan. Mine, will never come out, lol. I dab dab dab dab. So if you have a nicer lexan shell just goop the body sections and hotglue the bulb. Hardshell, no worries, lol. I would like to try but am out of, the hot glue sticks that come with the car "Ding Remover" kits. It comes with a couple of BLACK hot glue sticks, reverse screw vice, etc. The glue is made to hold to the car body until the ding pops out then it just releases. Used all of mine on my truck though. Several dings, lol. I also use xtra strenght hot glue on my other hobby builds, Star Wars stormtrooper armor, and Boba Fett costume/armor, working with ABS plastic, styrene, etc. Including circuit boards, wiring, fans, LED's on the suits and in the helmets. Holds up great under hard use. Last edited by beachbum; 08-23-2008 at 12:29 AM. Reason: because I'm half asleep and can't type worth a crap |
