Default Weathered wood look styrene?

Can anyone suggest a good way to create a weathered wood look on parts made of styrene? I've made up a picnic table out of flat sheet styrene, it's all original white now, but it's pretty banged up, I want it to look like it's been sitting out in the sun/rain for a couple years without being taken care of (resealed/painted etc.)

What I'm thinking of doing is painting it Tamiya dark yellow (basically Rat Patrol tan) and then going over it with a gray wash. If anyone has tried something similar, or can suggest a better route, I'd appreciate the advice.

Thanks!

I dont know if it will help any but i did a similer project. I used diferent colors sanded then in small spots and covered with a thin coat of wood varnish. it seemed to work and look good enough for me.

Labrat,
Thanks for the tip, I may try something like that. Kind of wishing I had painted before I glued everything together now....

For the weathered look try some really rough sandpaper/wire brush for texture then try useing a rag to wipe on stain/varnish paint ..amybe add some "cracks" "splits" with a exacto...

Thumbs up Re: Weathered wood look styrene?

You can also drag a razor saw across the styrene well moving it side to side abit leaves great wood texture and grain.

I have a dumb question...why don't you use real wood, then distress and weather it?
