| Disc brake rotors for my Grand Cherokee
I was at Tammies the other day and saw some wheel hex disc brakes that I thought would look good on the Grand Cherokee. Took them home and realized that the rears would work fine, but since I have TLT CVD's on the front, the hexes wouldn't work. That's when I got an idea. Awhile back I was in need of some aluminum hex stock, and my buddy Dennis said he'd CNC mill me some at work out of some round stock cut offs that were laying around. I used most of the hex stub, but had these pieces of drop left over. Here's what they looked like. You see where I'm going with this? Chucked them up in my lathe and faced the hex off to the right depth. Then I faced the rotor part. Since the hex was a couple thousandths from being centered, I spun the piece around and cleaned up the OD to make the hex centered on the OD. Spun it back around, and got out the parting tool. This is what the disc looked like after cutting it from the blank, a little rough. Back in the lathe, time to face the back side, and cut to the proper thickness. Now it's time to get out the centering drill. I measured, and a letter "A" drill bit is almost exactly 6mm. Drilling out for the stub axle. Next it's time to get out the vise and mill, to cut the groove for the hex pin. Perfect fit. The hexes/disc brake rotors before cross drilling. Hand measured, marked, and drilled. In the wheel. Mounted on the Grand Cherokee. You can see the rears here as well, I almost like the aluminum hand made ones better. Might have to make some for the rears later. |

WOW, great work! Thats pretty badass that you built your own rotors and didn't just buyt he 3racing rotors. I wish I had the tools to fab up certain parts.

Nice job on making those! I would love to get a chance to be able to use a mill/lathe. |
