| axle stops/bump stops limit axle upward movement
So I want to keep the height down on my rig but want flex. Not the ones located in the shocks but like used in 1:1's that are seperate. http://www.offroad-engineering.com/bump-stops.html Has anyone made some bump stops to limit up travel on the axles? If so do you have pics for ideas? I am thinkin somethin off the shock hoops or right behind them off the frame. |

In my experience limit straps as great. I used them on my Mugsy buggy. Though I used one in the center on the axle to limit overall axle droop but not effect articulation much. If you're going for that scale look I've seen some small rubber stops about a 1/4" round that could be mount almost anywhere to perform the task. I've refrained from buying them but maybe I will to show in this thread.

I always think of limiting straps as a preventing downword movement. I wonder if I could find a small shock to use as a bumpstop. just have to figure out how mount without brassin or the like. Or wait til I get stateside.

Think of a bump stop as a rocker switch. your axle will still roll as much as your suspension will allow it to go, but when you add dual bump stops to the roll of the axle you limit your travel. Your axle will not reach its full swing because the bump stop stops the axle on one side or the other from finishing its full motion. Add just a single bump stop in the middle and even though you you have swing left and right, your rocking is still limited by your suspension. And to top it off you loose the need for full compression. Even if you winch your axles down, your loosing squat. A limiting strap is sort of the same, but different. You still have full squat, and you still have full swing. your swing is limited by the amount of travel you allow with the straps in place. so when you left side is up, the right side is limited how far it can reach from your strap placement. Acts like a bump stop would. But you don't lose squat. There is nothing to deter you from having full squat and keeping your CG low while not loosing motion left or right if you come to an obstacle that requires axle movement. |
