As far as I'm aware, most winches have the ability to plug into a (likely third) receiver channel. This would allow control of the winch via transmitter if it has enough channels. Typically it's channel 1 for servo, 2 for ESC, and the third for accessories. In that case if you have a 2 channel transmitter you would not be able to control whatever may be in that third channel.

If it has the wireless controller you won't need anything special. Just wire it in and run it. The ones without the wireless controller can be run off an acc channel or a button on the winch control.

I use my wireless controller instead of my tx. I don't operate it that often so its easier plus I use my BEC for the third channel. I also solder on a 9v battery connector so I can run it separate from my lipos.

i use my bulldog with the wireless controller because i'm using RTR axial 2ch tx. i wasn't really sure on the proper way to wire it, so I decided to wire mine with a deans connector and use a "Y" splitter off my rig's 5000mAh 2s LiPo to power it direct since I don't use the winch much, but it could also be powered independently since it has a deans. so far i haven't noticed any negative effects. when i get a new tx i will be wiring it to a channel on rx. I did think of using a smaller 2nd battery, but my rig is a heavy pig already and I didn't want MORE weight. I never really though of running it off a 9v battery - does that work good? how is battery life? |
