Default scx10 ifs

I've had a plan for an ifs/irs rig on the back burner for awhile. Wanting to collect parts from a few twin hammers I'm not having any luck. Sure I could buy 2 used rollers but what a waste of the rest of the rigs. I started looking at other options cause the twin hammers steering is not that impressive. Touring cars have really short a arms and short axle shafts limiting the flex by putting the CV at its limits before trying to steer. I ran across a losi mini 8ight and from what I see in the pictures it looks like a good starting platform. Shaft driven, 2.2 wheel, 12mm hex, long travel, and fairly cheap ($160 for a new slider). I spent a few hours searching for builds and found nothing, searched for specs on the mini 8ight and found nothing.

Question is does anybody have one that can take a few measurements for me?
Width hex to hex
Will a 1.9 fit
Pics of the steering lock to lock
What size drivelines to the pinion gear
Are they pretty durable?

I actually picked up a ifs project from Eric113 awhile back.
After I completed the build I took it out for a few trail runs and I am super impressed with everything
except what you have mentioned.. the steering is terrible.
The positioning of the servo above the steering rack causes binding no matter the direction of mounting, steering link length, or
servo arm length. I tried several combos.

Funny thing is I was considering using a bell crank set up and the mini 8ight is very close to the correct measurements.

They do use a 12mm hex, and the bell crank arm measures right at 50mm almost exact to the twin hammers slide mounting points.

It is right at 7 1/4 from hex to hex, almost dead on with the scx measurement hex to hex.

Here is turn to lock

I can see using the bell crank on the twin hammers set up, but the weak point will be the size of the driveline parts on the mini 8ight.
The axles are tiny 2.56 mm thickness.

Thank you for the reply! A guy on Facebook stripped his car apart for me last night and sent me a bunch of pictures and tried several different wheel/hex options too. Looks like I'm going losi for sure! I'll add the pics and info to this thread when I get to a computer! Looks like the only real obstacle is going to be using the rear setup. The pinion gear is somehow attached to the spur gear. I may have to run another front housing if I can't figure out how to mount a front pinion in the rear.

The shafts should be OK with class 1 tires, if not I'll find a way to stuff something else in there!

What about the traxxas 1/16 rigs .
I have used the longer arm 1/16 summit on two ifs /axial Toyota builds .

why not look for a touring car that there are many drift upgrades too? The very small bit of drifting I did I saw some pretty crazy angles on some cars. Just a though.

Sweet! I can't see the pics on the original build cause I'm not a member, but it looks cool! I might have to attempt my own if the losi doesn't work out. I'm gonna check one out at this weekends comp and go from there! I guess I could use any center section and use a knuckle and shaft set up like that!

Well I got my hands on the losi/vaterra rig this weekend (thanks hotwheels) and wasn't real impressed with the strength or the steering. Also the width was a little narrow for my barbie Volvo wagon. So I think I'm gonna go with the home brew route. I was hoping to do a good simple build thread that anyone could follow with simple hand tools but oh well. Now I get to do a one off build with my machines! Not sure on the center section but I'm looking at the exo if I can ditch the dog bone cups and replace em with a no slop locker and a through shaft to accept slash universals. And a knuckle setup like riff_raff pointed out in that awesome wall rock buggy. Probably use wraith knuckles to get the 8* king pin angle or just machine my own so I can keep the axle really low in the knuckle like a twin hammers knuckle. Thanx for all the input helping me form a decision, stay tuned for a build thread soon (after I finish a few customer builds)!

Got to a good stopping point on the customers rig (raining and gotta pull my bike out to weld) so I threw together ax xr10 knuckle, shaft, and made an adjustable width temporary A frame. Should have my traxxas shafts tomorrow (need telescoping universals). Looks like I'm gonna have killer steering which is one of my major concerns. This will be a comp rig, not just a play toy. Need to order a set of exo diff housings tonight to keep from stripping my exo lol! Anyway here's a few pics!

I wish. I've got a customers TJ build on the work bench right now that takes priority, and I'm helping the local hobby shop by doing all of his customer repair work that eating up my spare time. Also working on putting my new scx10 chassis into full production.
