Default R-2 Review

Well I was off work today and I have been running the scaler today and have my final thoughts on the R-2. It is machined very nicely the 2 trannys that I got were 100% no flaws. The gears inside seem to be of high quality and the output shaft is made of some hard metal that took some extra effort to drill for the pede sliders. The motor that I am running is a Novak Velocity 5.5 and a GTB esc. That combo proved to be very strong but the tranny still held up to all the abuse I could throw at it today. I ran in to an issue with the motor hitting a screw as you can see in the picture where I had to take it out to get the pinion to mesh properly because the motor would hit. Taking out the screw seems to had no affect on the tranny it preformed flawlessly today. To fix this I am going to have to grind some of the outer edge of the screw away.

But this tranny is a great alternative to a Stampede or Stealth transmission. The cost is 80 but you get some thing that is more compact than the others and has all metal gears and you dont need to hassle with locking the differental.

My final score would be a 9/10 just because the motor and the tranny were not 100% compatible. But hey not everything is a 100% compatible in the crawling scene with out some modifications.

the only problem I have seen so far on mine is that the shaft of the outrunner was too long for the caseing (might be more of a problem with the motor than the trans) but a few seconds on the dremel solved all.

agreed, very nice piece.

Why not countersink the hole and install a flat head screw flush with the surface of the tranny.

Sorry to bring back an old thread but,
it looks like stock high lift shafts would fit straight on this!
Is this true???

We are already working on the next patch of R2. It will have a slightly bigger hole to fit all motors. And we will offer a shorter output shaft with a hole drilled.

There will be also some other minor changes, we will post some new pictures next week.

And we will also selling some 5mm-6mm output shaft adaptor as well, so people can use R2 on TXT-1 or similar truck.

I`m running R2`s in a couple of my rigs and using HL-shafts on one of them and they fit nicely:

The tranny fits pretty nicely in the HL-chassis as well:

Cutting the long output shaft, grinding a flat spot and drilling a new hole for the z-screw, was pretty easy with a Dremmel as well:

Just love those R2`s
