| Budget Crawler Hauler: 1960 Renault Galion
So I've been staring at this 1/6 Ranger stock chassis for nearly two years and finally decided to do something with it. A 2.2 rig fits nicely onboard, so it'll be a crawler hauler (pavement only, cuz it's got no suspension other than chassis flex). Gotta be a cabover to maximize space on the bed. It wouldn't be a Goat build if it was something normal. Anyone can do a Pete or a Kenworth. So I reached back into the memory vault, back to that day in 94 when I was wandering around the junkyard and came across a 1960 Renault Galion. It had been there long enough for a decent-size tree to have grown up through the frame Anyway, since none of you have ever seen one, I can take as many liberties with the build as I want, and no one will know. Started on the body, and cut an 11x24 sheet of aluminum for the bed. Mounted some hobby-grade electronics (barely, it's leftover RTR stuff, but better than what was in it) and got this far before I quit. I won't be able to pull it off for free (gotta buy some epoxy) but I'll really have to try to get the tag over $50. |

looks like your off to a good start. btw i think they had a little bit of a taper where the front was narrow and the cab got wider as it went back. also is that pair of batterey leads just sitting on the drill or is it rigged up to run on r/c packs. |

Oh no, wheelspinner's seen one, now I gotta ramp it up a notch There is a bit of taper built in, about 1 inch total. Just doesn't show up at the angle the pic was taken at. The 1/6 Ranger is a Chinese toy I picked up in '05. Made a new chassis with E-Maxx running gear and let the OEM stuff sit. And the drill is rigged for RC packs. The 8-cell pack died after 18 years of faithful service but the drill was still good, so I soldered on a Deans plug, picked up an MRC 8-cell pack and called it good. Peak chargers have come a long way since 1989 The original pack had a thermal fuse inside that would trip to cut off the charge. I suspect that's what went bad. Aaron, as much as she wants to, which is to say, no Last edited by microgoat; 05-28-2007 at 04:55 PM. |

Fine, if you guys are gonna post pics of the 1:1, then I'll just take a 1/2 inch strip out of each side, make a couple of pie cuts and move the headlights. Much better now. |

John, you're right, the roofline is off. I'll fix it when I pick up some more foam. Dok, no dice. Butt ugly ensures that no one will copy it |

I gotta finish the cab first Made a little progress tonight. Tweaked the roofline (the 5mm foam isn't that flexible, so I picked up some 3mm today), cut out every other grille slat and made fenders from the 1/6 inner fenders. This is why I never throw anything out |

The tires came with the 1/6 Ranger. They look a lot better than they perform. They're made of hard vinyl. This set has been to Colorado and back, Bender was gonna use them on his rig til he found out how much they suck, so I got 'em back. Got some epoxy on the roof last night, more going on today. |
