| I need some scale seats, but not the recaros.
Hey guys, so I know that the recaro seats are big in the scale scene, but I am looking for as true to scale as I can build. So here is the catch. I need non adjustable seats as per the 1 to 1 competion rules. So the recaros are out. Im looking for the same style seat but more like the Beard Baja seats. Any ideas. And while I am here, if nothing is out there other then the recaros, any suggestions on where to pick up a few of those? Thanks |

Any pictures of a specific seat that your looking for would help. Taking them out of a toy rc or toy car might be your only option. |

The Recaros are replicas of adjustable seats? I just can't see where one would be okay, and the other not. Last edited by Robb; 10-07-2007 at 09:12 PM. |

I made mine out of tin. not done yet, but looks close.......you can see most of it in this pic. A recaro was too big for my build. Amazon.com has recaros for $7.50, to he// with ebay |

Depending on your size rig, may be able to steal some from a Tamiya big rig. They are smaller thought then the cell phone seats...ill try to get a comparison picture

Here is a pic. I know that this is a bit over the top. I will use the other seats if I can't get my hands on something like this. But the race bylaws are very specific about non adjustable seats. So I figured to be true to scale I would at least try. |

Do you mean a reclining seat? I could see those being banned for safety reasons, you sure don't want the lock mechanism to fail and the seat to lay all the way back while at race speed. 1:8th or 1:10th scale will be a tough search. 1:24th scale, you'd find some in the right kit pretty easy. What scale are you building to? You might also look into resin casting. You could end up with exactly what you want... http://www.starshipmodeler.com/projects/jw_resin.htm Last edited by Big Mike; 10-09-2007 at 02:14 PM. | ||

My mistake, yes it is a non reclining seat. Resin casting looks like something I could do. Ill have to look into it. I am wanting to make a 1/10th scale. And I am trying to decide if I am going to go as insane as I have in my head, or just make it scale'ish. I have this idea for like a "honey I shrunk the jeep" level of scale. And I am unsure if I am in over my head. I have a decent start on a scale suicide sally. And am wanting to try my hand at something fast now. So time and money will tell I guess. |

I'd look around for a toy with some decent looking right size seats or just make some shells out of sheet metal and cover them.

Yeah, I'll just keep looking. And actually I think if I am going super scale, that could be cool to have some custom fabric seats.

So here it is. I decided that I couldn't buy what I wanted, and so here it is. The 1 of a kind, baja seat. Unfinished, but here are the pieces. Held together. Last edited by badfrank; 10-10-2007 at 05:38 PM. |

That was just the first attempt. I am actually starting on a new attempt right now. The color is bad I know. I will be using a better color once I have the whole process figured out. As for the hand position... I don't think I want to know. |
