Ok, that's what I thought. What do you guys recommend using, material wise?

Thanks!

IMO I would start with derlin. And actaully derlin is just fine to use for good. If you want to get "high tech" you could use carbon fiber or aluminum. I would stick with derlin for the skid no matter what.

Plastic and aluminum seem to be the most widely used materials. I don't suggest aluminum unless you have the machinery at your disposal to cut it (CNC, mill, plasma, laser, waterjet, etc)..or know someone who does. Carbon fiber sheet could also be used if you want the bling and light weight...but either get someone to cut it out for you...or have the knowledge to do it yourself. CF fibers get everywhere and if you don't take certain precautions (breather mask), you could have some issues. You could use titanium or stainless also, but TI is also tougher to cut and work with....and stainless may be a bit heavy.

If using plastic...I tell everyone who asks that acetal (Delrin) is by far the easiest to work with and it's pretty strong. Cutting board plastic is the next thing I'd suggest, but it's usually thicker (meaning additional weight), and doesn't cut as cleanly as the acetal. Comparing the costs of acetal vs. the cutting board plastic...you'll spend about double on the acetal. Not that it's really expensive, but I've heard of guys finding a large cutting board for somewhere in the range of $8-$10 at the most...and the acetal will run you about $15-$20 for a 12"x12" piece 3/16" thick.

So, it's up to you.

I got two small cutting boards from Target that were enough even to make a widow chassis and a manta chassis with a good but left over. They were less the $3 a piece. And yeah, the plastic is a lot easier to work with.

Cool, well I actually have a plasma cutter, and both a MIG & TIG welder.. So i'll have to see what I come up with.

Thanks for the help and check out my build thread!
