Default Subie Doobie Doo!

Here's my WK project, its about halfway done.

Some specs:
  • Tamiya Subaru Brat reissue body
  • Rooster Crawler ESC
  • Novak 55 Turn
  • Locked diffs and transmission
  • Traxxas Maxx shafts
  • 16t/93t pinion/spur combo
  • STRC extension kit 12.5"
  • Relocated battery
  • Lead weights on front axle for bite
Coming up soon:
  • Losi Rock Claws on narrow RPM Revolvers (got the tires, waiting on rims)
  • New skidplate for the tranny
  • Axle mounted servo w/ aluminum linkage
  • Fog lights for the grille
  • fab a mount for a FlyCamOne camera behind the windshield
  • GASP! trim the wheelwells :-( (gotta be done)
I hope you like it! I've had a lot of fun putting it together and modding it!

looks good. you don't have to trim the body you could just limit the up travel of your suspension. the best way to do this im not sure but im sure if you wanna go that way the pros here could help

ya you can just limit the up travel, some put a spring inside to do that but I've heard complaint that the shock cap comes off, what I do is get some fuel tubing and put it on the shock shaft, the length depends on how much or little you want the up travel. or get some foam board and cut them to the inner diameter of the spring and poke a hole in the middle and then make a slit on one side the goes to the middle and then slip it on

Thanks guys.

I can't get my mind around the concept of "limit the travel" :-P

I just took it out to "The Ditch", an improvised rock garden we made in a drainage culvert. It actually didn't rub TOO bad, but yeah I think I can half-teardrop the rears to the back bumper and maybe get away with it. I'll have to see what it looks like with the new tire/wheel combo first.

Unlike the Tamiya original, this thing not only has 4WD decals, it IS 4WD!

Put a piece of fuel tubing on the shaft between the shock body and the end. That way the shock can not compress as far.

That lid looks awsome. If you opted for some different tires/wheels, you could probably get away with cutting even less of the body up. Say some MOAB, Mashers, Badlands or any other narrow 2.2, especially if you get wide offset wheels.

Thanks for commenting on the body. Its the first I've ever painted/trimmed myself. I wanted something a little different and still keep a semi-scale appearance.

Blackfoot, I have some Losi Rock Claws and I plan to glue them to the narrowed, offset RPM Revolvers when they come in. Beadlocks are expensive!

Ericbrierton, I used a Traxxas shock spacer I had laying around and machined off its tab to lock the tranny. It basically replaces the clutch spring sandwiched between the middle gears. I got the idea from this thread: Locking the Slipper

The Brat body sneaks in at the tail end of a video I made on YouTube here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDBc91jVOHg

My cheap camera + YouTube compression = disaster! The Brat will be featured in my next one though!
