Default Another AMC Wheely King!

Hey guys!

I have been crawling with my Wheely King for a while now. Unfortunately i ran over my WK with my 1:1 scale 4Runner. Nothing too major was hurt and I decided it was time to begin another phase of building the crawler.

My beloved Subie BRAT (Brumby) body was creased across the hood and not so hot looking anymore. Instead I bought an HPI Defender 90 body. While I am adding scale details to the Def like fog lights, bumpers and such, I wanted to get a "basher" body to run in the meantime.

After reading about JavelinSST390's great Gremlin build, he inspired me to get a Fresh Cherries AMC Pacer which I found on closeout at Walmart for $12. After tossing the guts, I was left with the Wayne and Garth excellent/party time-mobile body. Some woodgrain contact paper and fog lights - viola!

Check it:

Unfortunately, not too much can be done with the WK chassis intact as far as scale looks go. I hope to get another crawler soon and then I'll concentrate on a scale chassis.

SahWEEET!!!!! If you EVER sell that I call dibs! The woodgrain is the PERFECT touch.

Wow, that brings back so many memories of when the Gremlin body first met Wk chassis...

It's funny, though, the slope of the pacer hood must make the Pacer body fit higher on the stock Wk chassis.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, I have a killer paint job on my Defender body, but this one just took on a life of its own. I know I'll be the only one showing up with a PACER! I'm gonna fashion out some kind of roof rack and get more book lights to make into fog lamps.

JavelinSST390, I think you're right, the hood slope sets the body too high. Oh well, I'm not ready to go for a scale ladder chassis yet - maybe by next summer. Right now I'm using the body mounts from the WK crawler kit. (Instead of buying the whole kit I just bought some pieces)

I am trying out something new - I used long links in the rear and short links I made out of Jato turnbuckles in the front. The STRC kit I had been running was too long for the Def body and I wanted to bring the wheels in. Hopefully, what I lose in articulation with the short links, I'll make up in the forward CG of my reversed chassis. Wheelbase is 11.25".

So far:

Novak Rooster Crawler ESC
Novak 55t can
93t spur/ 16t pinion (I think that's the pinion size-its been a while)
Traxxas 2075 Waterproof servo
Traxxas Jato turnbuckles (for front links)
STRC linkage kit (for rear links)
HPI crawler shock/link mounts (these are low-profile, awesome and cheap)
homemade aluminum axle servo mount and steering linkage
Proline Flatiron tires
RPM Revolver wheels
Epoxy diff lockers (still holding)
locked tranny with shock spacer
stock shocks mounted upside down
Traxxas Revo ball ends (bigger and smoother)
Traxxas Maxx driveshafts with hybrid Traxxas/HPI yokes
RC Screwz stainless hardware.

Yep, she's goin' to the swamp soon.

Party on, JavelinSST390. Party on, thevulgarcowboy.

Excellent!
