Default Wk to SCX

Hi there
I have a Wk which I haev used as a basher for over a year now. I got this idea into my head: Can I convert it to an Axial SCX chassis without buying a lot of stuff, ie as cheaply as possible? WHat do you guys think might be problematic? A question which comes to mind is: How doyou mount gearbox and motor, as WK has no skid plate?

ps: separate question: what does "clocking" the motor mean exactly?

Thanks

D

Clocking is putting the tranny sideways with motor on the side like this.

All you would have to do is make a new skid and the right length links.

you woud probably save some money in the long run if you just bought a scx-10.hear me out
unless you have another crawler your gonna have to get wheels, tires, links, scx frame and that right there puts you over 100$ retail. your gonna want to lock your axles, i dont know if the wheely king shocks will work on the scx10 or not. so you will probably need shocks.
axials in my opinion are alot more durable than wheely king axles.

why not just look at an X-Trail chassis and use your WK parts on it

Thanks guys. So are the X trailchassis and teh scx chassis very different.
I already have an axial ax10 artr, but I do not want to cannibalise it.I am not doing much with the WK at the moment- I am no longer using it as a basher as I got an ESavage and 2 nitros (Savage and crt2). I really want a scaler and I do not want to buy any more cars,soI thought tht I could do somethinG with the wK BITS.

Cheers

What makes you say that? They use the same R/P and the WK has a 5mm uniform shaft, where the Axial necks down. The neck down on the bone end even looks the same. I dont see any reason for them to be more or less durable than axial stuff. Plus they have a larger pinion shaft, easier to put a stronger / cheaper driveline on there. Like Maxx shafts.
Dunno why you would go X-trail when you can go SCX10. I think the SCX10 is a much better looking scale chassis. Plus its steel so you can weld / braze to it, and steel C channel is more scale.

I personally just last night finished up putting my set of WKs under my spare SCX10. I just made up some links for the rear, and modded my HandBros steering w/ new panhard.

Works like a charm, its just wide as WKs are. I use Tamiya Dark Impact front wheels all around. I just snapped a few pics, but essentially its just like putting a set of wider Axial axles under it. Nothing too fancy.

front

Rear (no shock towers yet)

Underside

The stance. Pretty wide, but it still looks decent. 9 15/16 track width.

Hope that helps.
