RC4WD offers a full set of drop-in steel gears. RPP has them in stock:

I did the tranny fix that is a sticky on this forum. Worked perfectly and only took a little less than 1 hour total and thats with me never tearing down a crawler at all. A few small screws and job was done. Took me more time to get the tranny out and apart than it did to do the gear mod. Gear mod took all but 10 minutes.

I used some self taping Tamiya screws and a small drill bit. Drilled the four holes thru the gears and then ran the self taping screws thru. Nice tight fit and been perfect ever since. 2 plus hours on the mod so far.

I do use the stock 55 turn motor that came in the truck so I'm far from hammering the gears. Still works perfectly.

I didn't realize anyone had the RC4WD gears available. That is definitely the best way to go, $50 and you don't have to worry about them again.

I'd avoid the aluminum gears like the plague, they wear out very quickly on high powered wheely kings..
