| How Tough are the WK Axles
I happen to have a pair of WK axles lying around that I would like to use as the base for a fast trail truck / casual FOFF rig. It will be a full custom build aside from the axles, an EMaxx trans with 2speed and things like wheels/tires/body. I have read the lockout thread and will definitely be implementing that for the rear. What else do I need to do to keep the axles from grenading should I lean into the trigger? I have the impression the diffs themselves are weak - do Savage diffs, or something else, fit? Am I worrying needlessly? I'm an adult and don't really abuse my stuff but sometimes the trigger does hit the the handle I'm just trying to determine if I should use these or keep them for something else and pick up some Axial axles. Thanks for the advice. |

Savage diffs and mt2 diffs work i know. Need hardened ones if your planning on fast/brushless areas. Also mip shafts. The stock shafts have a thin spot before the ball and snap like toothpicks with a bit of power. Not too bad really. I use them on a couple rigs.

I've got one set that have been beaten in my first crawler and the only things I've had to replace were bearings (mud and age), Hexes (went aluminum), and in that pair, I put Maxamizer spools in them. If you need open diffs, I put the spider gears out of the Blitz in my Monster WK with MT2 ring and pinions. Planning on adding RCP/MIP CVD's to that pair next though. Kinda want to go brushless in it eventually.

Excellent. Thanks for the link. I'll give these axles a try for now and see how they do. |

The CVD's that ZoSo and his wife sell are really nice and even the slowest shipping was plenty fast! I'm about to start building the ones I got Monday from them right now in fact.

If someone already covered this and I missed it, sorry. Axial gears (ring & pinion) and lockers work in WK axles. I have them in mine. If you were building a crawler-which it doesn't look like you are, you could run the "overs and unders" with HD lockers. Unfortunately, they didn't have those when I swapped out the stock WK R&P with Axial R&P/lockers. A lot of my friends run Axial based crawlers with over/under gearing and still haul ass with them.
