Default 55t or 65t motor?

First I want to thank Harley for the servo mount patterns. They work awsome!I have the wk sitting with a 12.5 wheel base And damn near 90 degrees of flex. Thanks to all the threads on here this project has come a long way in a short time and I hope to have pics soon. Now I need to decide on a motor.Any recomendations?Currently I have a good old 27t monster in it but burnt the stock speed control and had to order a new one.(One helluva smoke show lol) Thanks in advance!

the slower the better for crawling. if you want to hit the mud or water get a 35t else just go with a 65turn.

Mainly wanna crawl but a little muddin is always fun too.I was looking @ a 35t 55t and 65t and wandered how a 35 would work. The 27 in it now came out of my drift car so it is a little weak but did alright.

my 55t is too slow. I have it geared 15/96 and I dont have enough wheel speed to "power out of" rollovers. I had plenty, if not too much, with the stocker to keep it from flippin over backwards or forwards by jabbin the throttle. I will just keep the 55t in until my brushless motor comes in.

Go with the 65t since if its indeed too slow, you can gear it up more than a 55t since it makes more torque. I had a 55t in a couple trucks and i hate them compared to the 65t.

Nevermind. Just plugged in my batts I am gonna be runnin. 3cell lipo. Doubled the wheelspeed. All is well now.

PS: I ran the 55t with a 6 cell 1800 stick pack earlier today. Run times were in the 45min. range.

I used a 55t lathe mnotor geared 15/96. It has plenty of wheel spin, and good low speed.

I'm using an Integy 65T with stock gearing.

Top speed is about 5 mph but it is very controllable at lower speeds.

Run times are good but stock 27T run times were 1.5 hours or longer and I haven't run the 65T more than 1.5 hours yet.

The 65T can crawl up a rock face or it can scramble up the same rock face with some wheelspin and forward speed. There are rocks that my WK can only climb by scrambling with some forward momentum and some wheel spin, the 65T with stock gearing can do those climbs very well. It can also get off the trail fast if I'm suprised by a mountain bike.

This WK still has the original tires, it needs Masher 2000's.

Yesterday I installed the receiver and XL-5 speed control from a Stampede into the Wheely King. The XL-5 has a 'double pump' reverse and trigger controlled variable braking. The braking is very strong with the Integy 65T and stock gearing, so strong it can cause a frontward endo. But the braking is variable just like power output so the descent can be controlled very well.

1RCbasher2NV uses a 55T with lower than stock gearing, his WK crawls very well but his top speed is lower than mine with a 6 cell battery. If he uses a 7 cell pack then his WK comes alive and has a top speed about like mine with the 65T and stock gearing. He likes the 7 cell packs because his WK can "scramble" or crawl with them as opposed to just crawl with the 6 cell battery.

If I had it to do again, knowing what I know now, I'd get the 65T again.

Can I ask you what ESC you are running?
I have some 3 cell lipos that I would like to use, but I am afraid of burning up the stock ESC as I haven't found any specs for it.

Has anyone here used the 45t? It seems like a good one for trail running...

Read this thread in response to a question I posted in the electronics section. It really made me rethink my logic on what motor wind I wanted to run.

Motor Winds VS Gear Ratio?

i'm rockin' a 75 turn and my buddy has a brood 80 turn. the bigger the better i say, although i havent checked out the todd1803 thread, he will probably prove me wrong!!! i was going to go w/ a brushless(i run a mamba max esc) but i havent had any difficulties w/ the 75 turn. it'll wheel-hop and spin the wheels as well as any other i've seen, but i think a brushless is going to be the long-term, low maintenence way to go.

I am running the 18 / 96 with a 65 turn. I can get it to stall if I get it wedged. It also gives enough wheel speed to avoid roll overs. I plan on dropping to a 16 or so to increase the torque. Right now it runs a little faster than walking speed.

So it seems like the best solution would be a 45 or 55t geared down a bunch right?
