Default Rubicon - WK Leafer

This is the start of my Rucicon WK Leafer. Started with a MFM chassis and WK axles. I worked out a way to mount the Tamiya springs in the WK axle mounts using upside down suspension stays with about 19 degrees of axle angle. I will be installing an RC4WD tranny soon.

Using some Tamiya suspension stays for a permanent leaf mount. The brass is just for mock up to see how everything works.

Faberware cutting board for the tranny mount / skid plate.

New Bright Jeep Rubicon 1/10th body from Toy-R-Us. Proline tires for mock up.

Some type of bumper should hide the frame in the front. Thinking of using Associated 18mt rear socks without springs and chassis mounted servo. I will post more as it develops.

You want to solid mount the leaf springs to the axle. The way you have it will give you uncontollable axle wrap. It looks like a great start, just need to get some spring blocks fabbed for it. Then an axle wrap bar would probably help too.

Not all that much. The springs are kinda stiff. Maybe a decent amount once the tranny and the electronics are mounted.

I do have a metal shim under the leafs as well as the shortest leaf that came with each leaf set on top to help control the axle wrap. I have given it a little twist by hand and there is minimal twist. We'll see once it running on motor. If there is axle twist, I can fab up some blocks to install.

Thanks

The body is just sitting on top. I do have to notch the body to get it lower. I am just waiting untill it is time for the electronics to see how much room there is.
Thanks

Ok now it makes more sense. When I saw you at the comp today at south mountain, I knew that chassis you had looked familiar. I kept wondering where I had seen it, now I know this is where I saw it. It looks really good in person, especially with the tranny and motor in. I hope you can get the stiff suspension issue resolved.

I am pondering scrapping this idea and going back to a 4-link setup.
(it started out that way)
I had a good time on the trail today and think that I might try and get this rig to be more competitive. They say don't touch your first build. Keep it around. I guess these get kind of sentimental or something. Must be so, I can't get myself to want to tear it down. Your truck looked sweet. Also, how did you get it so quite?

Hope to see you in 3 weeks.

It is supposed to be a trail rig. But, it is really stiff and I don't think that with the electronics mounted that it will help that much. I am thinking of going back to a 4 link.

It got really quiet after I put grease in the tranny. Your truck was actually really quiet too. After you left the comp things didn't go so well for me. I broke my front servo saver, but still finished the 2nd corse, then on the 3rd course my ESC started glitching, but I still finished. Finally on the 4th corse I stripped the gears in my rear servo, but somehow i still finished. I realize that if I keep competing I will keep breaking stuff and right now I don't have the funds to pay for replacment parts every competition. So now I think I'm going to turn my truck into a scale Jeep Rubicon with a 4 link design and the black MFM chassis. It will be a non competition trail/rock crawler. The crawling P.A.R.C does is a little too extreme, especially the last 2 courses.
