| Rancid's n00b WK Build
I've been playing with RCs for awhile, but this is my first crawler. My old roomie had a really kickass FJ and I went crawling with him once. Thats my entire crawling experience. First, I started with a 4WD stock WK: Then I went to the hobby store and bought: (2) Traxxas #5318 - Revo Push Rods (2) Traxxas #5139 - 116mm T-Maxx Turnbuckles (1) Traxxas #4915X - Half Shafts, Long (1) New Era Traxxas Jato Screw Kit (1) Elmer's Ultimate Glue I took the axle apart and glued up the diff and let it sit overnight. I used an old Erector Set piece for the upper link connection to the axle: And flipped the shock holder around 1/4 of the way for my shock connection and lower link connection: When I finished the rear, I put it all back together to compare to the stock front end: The stock front: Modified rear: I still need to cut out a template for the front steering servo and make better mounts for the shocks. Is it better to have a lower CG with a lower shock mounting point (chassis and axle sides) or have more ground clearance? Any advice is much appreciated. |

Looks good so far. A good thing to do once you have an OTA servo mount made is to make the truck run in reverse. Just make your rear axle the steering axle and reverse the motor's polarity. Then all the weight of the battery is up front.

i personally wouldn't trust the pin holding the bottom of the shock on like that for very long, other than that, i think you're off to a great start

+1 on that pin, get a 3mm screw and lock nut and put a nylon spacer in there so you dont bend the plastic mounting tab. Other than that looks awesome! good luck! |

The pin is next on the list to be fixed. I think my roomie with the FJ is on pirate4x4.com. Its an old blue one with a black cage he built himself. His name is Zack and he lives in the Denver area... |
