My first WK has been outgrown... Time for something new! I like the crawlers with tube frames/chassis, but without experience in brazing or knowledge of how to build a tube chassis I have been lead to the BODILESS crawler chassis. Normally I design my own stuff, but I couldn't help but borrow offroader5's Manta chassis template, and modify it to fit my liking. Here's his original Manta template: http://offroader5.freeservers.com/Te...;20chassis.pdf I use a drawing program to create my all of my custom stuff in 2-D, so I took the Manta template and basically traced it in the drawing program so I could manipulate it. Here is my rendering: Then I basically made the top part of it 0.21" taller: And here is a direct comparison of offroader5's Manta and my version: The material for the chassis will be aluminum, and I'm making a custom motor/spur gear mount to fit my existing direct drive setup (no tranny, only spur + pinion) also out of aluminum. The rods connecting the two chassis plates together will be 3/8" OD x 1/8" ID polycarbonate tube, tapped to a 4mm thread (similar to my previous chassis). The skid will be $0.99 store cutting board, if I can find it (otherwise, 3/8" thick black delrin). I hope to also make a sort of roof and windshield for it out of 1/16" polycarbonate, and then paint that. |

It's based off of the Manta chassis template that Offroader5 made and hosts on his site. Mine was cut from 1/8" 6061-T6 aluminum.

Am I blind or do you not have a transmission?

Correct, no transmission. Geared 6/66 with the 730 kv motor and 3s Lipo top speed is only about 3.6mph, and it's got PLENTY of torque. In my case there's no need for a transmission, so I figure why put something on there that's not necessary.

With a statement like that you really should purchase some clod axles, and go to town with them. Nice work...and yes, to answer a question from before, a few people have done torsion kings, myself being one of them. Search "pimp slap" for further info, or i could post up a few images.

Clod axles would be different, but I don't have enough time/money to go digging into them.
