My scratch built wk crawler...

6 Attachment(s)
First off, hey all, I am a new member to the site located in DFW, Texas (in case there any other local crawler freaks in the area).

Well, I recently picked up a WK kit from Kevin over at TCS and ended up tearing it down before even running it stock. Well, I finally finished it up a couple of days ago (other than some tweaking) so I thought I would share. Remaining is relocating my lower links to the inside of the axles, mounting some maxx sized wheels and tires on it, and converting to a brushless/lipo setup...I know it's too long for comp, this is a basher.

2Crawlers 07-06-2007 12:34 AM

How does it crawl?

billet works 07-06-2007 08:59 AM

If the rain stops this weekend I'll head out to the trails and take some action shots to post up...

As for what else is coming...well I can tell you as time permits I'll be machining my own axles, trans., beadlocks, etc...unfortunately real work interferes with my hobby stuff...haha

Nasher 07-06-2007 10:11 AM

WOW that's the only word I can think of that can describe how much i love that

Lumpmister 07-06-2007 12:22 PM

That is one of the Coolest WK I have seen in a while. What machine did you do to make te chassis and all the cool other aluminum goodies?

billet works 07-06-2007 12:34 PM

I've got a new HAAS 3 axis out in the shop...draw my stuff in AutoCAD and Solidworks, and program everything in Mastercam.

Thanks for the kind words...it is a project still in process but I will keep the thread updated with any new madness I can come up with to add to it.

It's setup kind of high right now for screwing around on the small rocks/dirt mounds outside the shop...will drop her down and go try to hit some bigger stuff this weekend.

WRMorrison 07-07-2007 05:48 AM

Nice machining! "thumbsup" How do you like MasterCAM? We just purchased FeatureCAM at work, and the demo looked pretty promising.

-WRM

billet works 07-07-2007 06:32 AM

Mastercam is awesome. I have only been using it for 6 months now and taught myself on it. Of course I have a background in other software but this is my fav thus far for programming.

MaXX_CrAWlER7 07-08-2007 08:38 PM

wow amazing work i also hope to be getting some of those parts soon too

Crawling pics added...DUW

Finally had a chance to take this thing out for some more testing now that the rain has given me a break. Still more mods to come but overall this thing performed great!...especially considering I have yet to replace the stock tires...have some masher 2k's at the shop to put on once I get my new wheels cut.

i love the frame and the links!!!!

rm25x 07-14-2007 05:28 AM

Thats a good looking buildup. Like the way you did the upper 4 link mounts on the axle.

jeff jenkins 07-14-2007 06:03 PM

that somewhat resembles a gmade spider but cooler... i love the way that chassis looks and the servo/battery mount are awesome. nice work. keep us posted.

Update...new shoes and stuff!!! (wheels and tires)

2 Attachment(s)
Well I have now swapped out my servo mount for my new design, shortened the w.b. so it can compete, and finally got around to making my wheels and mounting up some new rubber. Each wheel with tire weighs in at 13.7 ounces with current foams. No extra weights needed.

Now I desperately have to start updating my electronics (especially since I fried my ESC this weekend at the Disney Comp.)...wires will be neatly tucked away upon the installation of the new go goodies. Also, my comp truck will be receiving a new skid plate and transmission transplant in the very near future.

More to come...

Don

tsaun987 08-13-2007 02:39 PM

I really like those rims. Are you planning on making any of those products available for purchase in the future? Thanks.
-Tyler

billet works 08-13-2007 02:50 PM

Everything you see is/will be available through TCS Crawlers, Beckworks, and others.

tsaun987 08-13-2007 02:54 PM

thanks... i want some upper link mounts!!!!!

CarbonShadow 08-13-2007 03:35 PM

Hows the tourqe twist? Looks killer man plus the beadlocks are nice too. Get a vendor star and sell these ******!!!

billet works 08-13-2007 03:45 PM

Torque twist is minimal (due to stiff springs, some fuel tubing, and some 100 weight shock oil). Thanks!

nonstopboost 08-15-2007 06:19 PM

i love the machine work...sweet rig
