| clicking sound coming from your truck?? hey, if you notice a "clicking" sound coming from your truck, it may not be your center diff slipper. i thought thats what was going on w/ my truck, so i did the screw-together plate fix by jia(super easy for anyone!) put it back together and as soon as i tried to climb up something, the same click. well, i isolated it, turned a few screws, and it turned out that 3 of the four screws in the front of the pumpkin were stripping out. i used longer self-tapping screws and it cured both problems, the clicking and the stripped holes. i have my servo mounted above my axle using the 3 mounting holes. there is alot of stress on that area, and the motion of the servo kind of works everything loose after a (long) while. i'm going to run longer still screws thru the holes all the way and use nyloks on the back side. so check those screws |

Did you check the condition of your ring and pinion? If you dove it a fair amount before the discovery of the screws they may be shot. Good catch though

Same thing happened to me right after I put the servo mount on (I didn't tighten them down good) Mine only clicked about 2-3 times before i caught it. Well, after about 2 weeks my r&p is now toast. It will barely pull the rear tires even though the gear teeth don't look that horrible. I guess I need to shim the gears up when I put it back together this time. Will the lhs have diff shims? |

i dont have a WK but with my TLT my hexes were stripped and when they had pressure on them they would spin in the wheels which made a clicking noise..

Things that make your Wheely King go click: 1. the slipper clutch in the tranny. (this is a loud clicking) 2. poor mesh between pinion gear and spur gear. (has a more grinding sound but some times clicks) 3. poor alignment of drive shaft angles causing binding/bumping of drive shaft joints (this is a duller click or bumping sound) 4. ring and pinion gears in the axles not being shimmed correctly. (this is a much faster clicking sound than the slipper because of more teeth) 5. stripped gears in the axle case housing that you didn't shim correctly or did not lock correctly (this is a muffled clicking inside the axles) 6. dog bone pin broke in the axle cup at the wheel. (usually heard while turning and in a bind) 7 stripped wheel hex (these sometimes look great but look close for the chrome to be off the wheel hex that holds the axle hex nut) there is usually a white mark on the strait part of the hex sides- looks like the chrome is gone. If so their slipping. (much like the dog bone, but the wheel stops pulling or slows) GOOD LUCK FINDING YOUR CLICK!!!!! Last edited by JIA's Dad; 07-19-2007 at 10:31 PM. |

I picked up an interesting click last night. It was a singular popping sound, and it only happened once. So, add another clicking reason: Your 14.4 volt crawlermaster just claimed it's first part: snapped rear axle. |

| well i learned a VERY IMPORTANT lesson at the comp. its pretty much necessary to leave your tranny slipper(lol) unlocked. i BLEW UP my small output gear in the tranny. it sheared 5 teeth off of it. if you have locked axles, its a good idea to leave the slippper open 'cuz somthings gotta give!! and the tranny did. of course hardened gears are sold out, so a replacement set has been ordered. the original problem was not the slipper slipping, it was the bevel gear in the front axle, the case was loose. if your going to lock your axles, i WOULD NOT RECCOMEND locking your slippper. the spring in the slipper is PLENTY HEAVY, and if it starts to slip alot, its worn. you could lock it at this point IF YOU REALLY HAD TO, like in the middle of a comp, to get you thru, but it just took a wedged front wheel and a small throttle blip to end my day. i still had a blast at the comp, everyone was very cool and laidback. i had hoped for LOTS MORE RAIN to raise the carnage level, but there was alot anyway. |

HPI makes both hardened and heavy duty ring/pinion gears that will work for the WK - they are option parts for the NMT.

| Hmm, if its a loud click, then I have something else clicking. I think its my front driveshaft, because I barely stretched the front by a quarter inch, so I thought I could get away with the stock one. I guess I'll have to try cutting down my other T-Maxx one.
