| Anyone broke a CVD yet?
I have had the cvd's for a while now, I installed them in the rear about 8 or 9 months ago. I just got around to installing them in the front axle just a couple weeks ago. (havent had much time to play) After building Goober, during my 2nd run, I somehow managed to break a CVD. It was the passenger front. I have replaced it with a stock dogbone for now. Well needless to say, I have since broke 2 stock dogbones within the last 5 or 6 outings (past 3 days). All of them are breaking on the passenger front. After I broke the CVD, my Mamba Max & CCBEC showed up from JRH. I put the new goodies in and it ran fine for the first 2 runs. After that I broke the stock dogbones. My set up I am running is a: Mamba Max CC BEC JR z9000t Servo 7 cell MPI hump pack R2 Trans RC Guy diff lockers CPE 12-14mm 3/4" wideners RC4WD 3.2 Truescale beadlocks Hpi GT tires Any ideas on why the CVD would break. It didnt snap it at the machined down end like on the stock dogbones, it broke the pin out of the axle cup, not the stub through that goes through the wheel and c-hub. I did a search on axle breakage and found a bunch of threads but none addressed a broken CVD. I now know how to fix the problem to keep from breaking the stock dogbones, but I would like to see if there is any rhyme or reason why I would be breaking CVD's, or if anybody else has broken them. Is there any axle shafts that are stronger than the cvd's? Thanks for the help fellas. Last edited by TONKA TOY; 03-22-2008 at 04:29 PM. |

nigels_world(Sam) and myself have both broken CVD's here in AZ. Sam with his super awesome welding skills fixed both of ours and haven't had a problem since(welded the ends of the pins to the cups). I did recieve a new CVD from RCP after sending them pictures and info, no questions asked....wound up getting that one welded up too. I'm not running a massive amount of power either, 45t, 96/15 gearing, Rooster Crawler, WK tranny...I do get kinda stupid sometimes with the wheel speed though.. |

I've broken 3 cvds, one snapped the outer where the threads start in a nasty fall, the other two sheared the pin out of the cup. They're definitely stronger than stock, but they're not indestructible. I think they just won't hold up to the abuse of those big tires you run on goober. The first one I broke got warrantied, the last too I've had to buy:-(

I haven't even broken my stock axles yet, and I am running tons of power. I'm running a 3020-14 Scorpion outrunner, with a Sky One esc, on 10 cell 2000mah batteries, going throught an AX-10 trans.

Those axles aren't designed for that big of a tire I broke the stock dogbones in my WK axles so easily with 2.2 mudslingers, I got rid of the axles.
