I am in LITH, i.e. Lake in the Hills, which is in McHenry. The only summer crawling out this way is around the Fox River, if it's low enough, and way out towards Rockford.

Streamwood. Pretty much as far West as you can go in Cook County.

I have been meaning to get to Evanston to look over a potential crawling spot at the North end of Northwestern's campus. When I was younger I used to hang at the beach behind the campus art gallery (at the lighthouse.) If I remember correctly, there was some good rock just south of the beach restroom building...as well as just south of that building as well. I have been wanting to look this site over as a potential place to crawl. Once some of the snow melts...it is worth investigating.

These rocks run from Rogers Park (N end of Chi) all the way up past NW.

I go to James park a lot for bashing on the big trash mountain... it's got some nice deep ruts and other obstacles.

I worked in Evanston until 5 years ago.....and I do remember all the rock near the shore. If we could find a good parking location near rock...that would be ideal. I recommended the art gallery/beach because of the parking lot there. But I am sure that there are many others.

lol, I am sure we'll here whinning about the sand!! lol

One of the best crawl spots in Northern California is a place called bean hallow state beach, more naturally sculpted rock formations that you could comfortably walk in a day, but there was sand, and salt water to deal with.

SO, with that in mind, as soon as it thaws out some I'll scout it, and possibly add it to the list of comp spots. I am curious though to see the size of the holes between the rocks, break waters are notorious for swallowing rigs and legs causing major damages. Anyways, I'll scout it and see, hopefully it's another in a series of spots we can add to the list of crawl spots.

The good news about the locations that his photo really shows tend to be further from the shore.....so the sand exposure is not as bad as it could be. There are also some closer brakewaters that may be a sand nightmare. If I remember correctly, the art gallery location is sand to the south of the entrance with some rock formations, while to the north, it is part of a wooded/growth area that ends at the lake. Probably a good location for both COMP and SCALE. They definitely deserve a look. My office was on the 17th floor of the Chase building about 3 blocks from the lake.....and I remember seeing all of the rock out of my office windows.

I'm in Glenview. The northwestern area is about 20-25mins from me on a good day... weather breaks I make use a afternoon and check it out... Any chance somebody and note the area using google earth soo I can track it down a little easier I'm not familuar with the campus.... Only reason I ever considered going would have been to watch my Buckeys give them a lesson in how Big Ten football is supposed to be played ;-P

For those in the NW, I am getting some interest from HobbyTown on getting some rock in for us. I go in regularly with one of my crawlers to dig through the parts racks to find some parts that I might be able to make work.

I will keep after them as they start digging out for the 1/8 scale outdoor track and let you know how it is going.
