| New spare wheel for Ol' Blue...
I've never had a spare tire on my Jeep, due to the fact that I'm a stickler about a spare wheel matching the others. I'd rather have no spare than a non-matching spare. I recently acquired another single RC4WD BL01N wheel that matches mine, so I decided to drop the $$ on a 3rd pair of Rok Lox and mount up a spare wheel. A couple shots of black enamel and a rummage for a 5th ring, and viola we have a matching spare wheel... After toying with a couple rear mounted ideas, I decided to keep it simple and go baja style. I brazed in a mounting platform out of 3/16" steel rod and 1/16" plate, and made up a handwheel thing out of brakeline scraps and a 10-32 bolt... Repainted and remounted... Now Ginger is ready for a flat tire, and everything matches (except the hardware ) Next we'll have to fabricate an opening tailgate since access to the bed has been somewhat restricted... |
