Default Go Fast, lightweight, trophy truck Raptor

Ever since I took my 2.2 avalanche apart to build this:

Ive wanted to build another 2.2 rig. The 1.9 rigs are fun, but there is nothing like a 2.2. Around thanksgiving I bought a wraith kit. At first I was just going to build it, toss a brushless system in it and peel out. Then I started thinking about a 1:6 scale body. I had a yukon awhile back that I ended up selling before I built it. So the hunt was on for a body. As much as it pains me to build a ford, the raptor seemed to fit the build better then the yukon body. I ended up getting a body off of ebay. I also wanted to build the chassis out of aluminum. Trying to keep it light but still have some beef.
So I started building a chassis/cage.

To build this how I was dreaming it up, I needed to cut a few things out.

Then it was time for more tube

And more tube

And this is where I am currently

More to come.

Build specs as of now.
Wraith axles
Wraith tranny
Savox Steering servo on the axle (just to keep it simple)
Wraith tires on rockstars (cuz I had them)
Tekin brushless setup
Full Aluminum chassis

Did get some more tubes tacked in place over the weekend.

Started on a bumper. I think Im going to add 2 more up right tubes, one on each end. Ill end up mounting 4 lights on it.

Also got some sliders, front bumper supports, and some tubes to support the spare tires in the back. Still more tube to come.

A perfect candidate for the old Exo-Wraith treatment perhaps?? IFS front end on this build would really make it stand out.

NEVER! I hate IFS! The way I drive and what I plan on doing with this I would rather have the solid front. Think of it as a SAS Raptor

We need to have an RC TTC at ABF.

The first event will be excessive drinking and we will see how it goes from there

Got some more work done last night. So much nicer to cut a tube and weld it on rather then having to take a pile to work and weld them on in my free time.

I think for the most part all of the tubes are in. Still need to do a few things on back. Next is shock mounts.

Messed with the front shock mounts and got the shocks in. At full compression/bump it as sitting at about what I would call ride height.

So I cut them off and some tube to redo them. You can see the new higher mounts towards the front, and the 1st version towards the back.

That got the truck to sit lower, and now at full bump the servo just clears the battery tray.

I plan on sucking the front axle back about 1/4" to center the wheel more. And I will probably need to limit down travel....

A little too much travel.
Looks good. I'm curious to find out the finished weight.

I think its going to be heavier then I was expecting. I think I have 5-6 rods of 1/4 x 6' solid aluminum. Hopefully still lighter then a comparable 1/6 scale build.

Don't limit the travel. Just add sway bars so the travel is used appropriately.
