An easier question, how much did the box weigh when you received it.

According to the RPP web site in technical specs the packing weight is 8.0KG not sure what that is in LBS... But my guess it's about 17 lbs which is every thing in the box...that's one heavy MF... Cool build love to have one.... Last edited by rustneversleeps; 05-18-2015 at 08:00 PM. |

Yep, 17.632 lbs. Wow, that's a heavy rig.

The shipping weight was a little over 19lbs. Being made from almost all metal I'm sure it'll be every bit of 17lbs. The assembly manual recommended a 45 turn or greater motor to ensure it has the torque needed to push this thing around.

Coming along nicely Erik! I have a question, what size are the wheels, and tires? |

Been a few days, I've been gathering parts and going though the build plan. Earlier this week I cracked open the diff covers to peek inside. The locker splines look super fine pitch, hope they'll survive. I did go ahead and lube the ring and pinion and the locker mechanism before I put it back together. I picked up all the electronics from JPH. DX6i, HH Torquemaster, a CC BEC, HS-5585, 645MG, 3x HS-65MG, HS-65HB The Tekin 55t motor and 3 speed shifter tucked away: 1.6mm steel cable and little aluminum crimp ferrules The 2WG/4WD and drive shaft servos are a tight fit! The scale cables are nice looking Last edited by Mad4Rnr; 05-24-2015 at 11:45 PM. |

Lookin' good, personal choice on the transmitter, or is that what the instructions called for?

I actually finished programming it last night, I think it should work pretty well. I have it set up like an old school Bruiser / Mountaineer... I could have gone with an 8 channel but I figured the Winch and Lights can be on separate controls. | |

Awesome build! Looks complex, which is just my style! I'm already putting things in place to buy one of these myself, but does anyone actually have some in stock yet? I can only find pre-orders. Someone mentioned RPP, I'll have to check there. How much did you pay for all the electronics? Looks like at least $700-$800 anyway- subbed!

I've been pretty busy this last week at work, we've got a trade show next week so I've been putting in some extra hours to get some conceptual prototypes out. I also had a small set back on this build. When I tried to close the motor housing there was still about 0.5 to 1.0mm interference between the servos and the front housing. I'll need to modify the housing a bit and want to do it right so I ordered some tooling for my Gizzly mini mill that I got from Dean. Once the tools arrive I'll get the motor all buttoned up and take a video of the radio controlled shifting action... In the mean time I've been designing some top secret light bar mounts and also started on the rest of the build. First up was the assembly of the front axle link mounts. On step 10 of the manual I did not follow the instructions, too me it seemed the instructions were calling out the wrong parts. I substituted four M2x6 socket head cap screws (SHCS) in-place of the 12mm length and M2 nuts that the catalog calls out. Its kind of hard from the picture to see why I did this but since all four holes in the bottom half of the mount are all threaded it made no sense to use long screws and nuts. Another thing I changed on the front axle was I used four M2.5x8 SHCSs instead of the two M2x15 screws that the manual called out to attach the upper link mount. Its weird cause the mount is threaded M2.5 and there is no reason to use M2 screws. Super cool to use real rubber bushings but when it when it came time to attach the links I had to use M3 washers as shims in the mounts to get rid of excess slop. Rear axle complete Front axle didn't need shims though |

Chassis assembly time! Nicely formed sheet metal pieces with CNC aluminum center section. I did have to drill out the threads in four holes to bolt up the lower rear link mounts. Again with the spacers, this time 3mm spacers on the lower rear mounts. The rear axles bolted up OK except the rear pan hard seems a tad short. I'll reserve judgment until the rig bears weight, it might be just about right... Next up is the front steering, pretty cool concept but I have a feeling it will be a tad sloppy Top tip, cut back the outer sheath of the cable housing about 3mm so that they fully sit inside the brass adjument ferrules. This should cut back on any undue slop. Here is another spot where the instruction just don't make a lot of sense, in step 12 they call for a M2.5 x 6mm screw to hold the pit-man arm cover to the chassis. If you use a 6mm screw you would get about two threads worth of engagement, I replaced them with 8mm to guarantee some purchase. When bolting up the front axle I used some Axial 1mm spaces Front panhard seems a bit short as well All mocked up with springs but no shocks yet... |
