Default YB's little MFer

My little mythical Flatty that is...

A good friend of mine owns a 1:1 flat fender with no lift and 35s that works amazingly, so I'm aiming to build something similar to it in 1:6 scale.

Here's a picture from our Mediocre Adventure last summer and that's my Commando behind his MF.

Low slung, leaf springs, and yota axles are three things that are a must for my first big willys. This pic is with .850 SLW hubs

Started by cutting the ends off the RC4WD yota housing and cut the ends off of an old wraith housing to adapt VP chubs and knucks.

I drilled out the plastic wraith spline pieces with a 27/64 drill bit. Then I chucked the yota housing in my drill press and used a file to turn down the ends to fit inside the 27/64 plastic ar60 splines.

This axle wound up 1" narrower than a wraith axle but wider than a SCX axle.

This is where I got incredibly lucky. A XR10 shaft slipped right in with ZERO modification. I can't be the first one to figure this out but I hadn't seen it before. Really blew my mind.

Nice job, I need to narrow rear a tf2 housing by an inch, going to have to give this a try.

Did you have a special jig to chuck it up in the drill press ?

I pressed a piece of round rod into a board and clamped the board to the drill press table. The rod kept the axle housing from pushing away while I used the file.

Finally got a 2nd housing from RC4WD and turned down the ends to run wraith rear lockouts. You'll notice I sand blasted the front chubs, there was just too much orange for a scale willys.

I also ordered a willys cage from Super Shafty. The bends and brazing on this piece are brilliant! Very very happy with it!

This cage is nice and light which seems to be a direction this jeep is headed. It also perfectly mimic's the cage in the 1:1 MF I'm duplcating.

Can't wait to see how you replicate the high line fenders, how are you going the build the frame rails?

you could chop the fenders off and move them up. then chop the hood at the same level. i already know how to do it in my head. just cant do it in words.

Small meaningless update. Painted the SuperShafty cage, mounted some beadlocks, and started making some leaf springs.

No update is meaningless as long as it has pics.

Good find on the XR10 drop in setup.

VP steering parts have been put on yota axles before but ya, I think you are the first to figure out the setup without axle shaft cutting.

I did the VP steering parts mod to my yota after seeing winnerone do it. I think Superdave did it a few years ago too.

I've been hunting for stock axial xr10 rear shafts to test the "drop in" fit on my rear axle, but no luck. So I made a ugly ass jig to weld up my own rear shafts.

MIG welded and straight as arrows thanks to the ugly vice grip/C clamp fixture. Added some gold paint for extra strength.

Buttoned the axles up with the helical cut HD gears from RC4WD and some scale hardware on the third members. XR10-yota axles are done, time to work on that leaf sprung frame I've been avoiding.

Genius! Are these the standard yota axles or the 1/5th scale ones?
