| First Ground Up Build 1/6 Jeep TJ with Clod Axles
A friend of mine gave me this body a while back, I have let my almost 2 year old son push it around the house. He has played with it so much the back wheels came off. I got the idea I wanted to build it and eventually give it to him as his first hobby grade rc. I went with the clod axles because that was my first hobby grade rc. The first thing I got for this build were the axles and that's when I realized I was in a little over my head. I contacted stangkillass from the forum to get some frame rails made up, when I did he started asking me questions I did not have the answers to. This is were you master builders come in. I thought I wanted tabs on the rails for the links to mount to, but he told me that wouldn't work very well. He suggested that I use scx, wraith, or narrow scx skid because there isn't a lot of space on clod axles for mounting shocks links or its narrow on the axle where they do mount I dunno so if anyone can help please speak up! I also need any guidance at all with the axles for mounting locations of links and shocks. Also im going to do some crawling with this but I do have a scx10 for comps, so this rig I wanted just a yard basher almost slash style lol. Really any help or point in the right direction is greatly appreciated! Well here are a few pics so you can see what im working with so far. I just scrolled through and checked out the pics walking dead on but any way that is really awesome so far bro. I unfortunately dont have access to a welder heck even if I did i have no clue how to weld. My build is more of a buy parts and hope it all comes together in the end!

Flip through these threads and find Bitter End's "Scrap Metal" build. He used Clod axles with a custom built frame

Looking at the body id have to say to go with the scx10 axles as they are narrower then the AR60s. Maybe using a 1.9 or perhaps a 1.55 setup? Sent from my LG-D852 using Tapatalk |

That's very true. Im thinking scale shop chassis from stang killa ss and wraith skid. Im just having a hard time trying to measure to see if the link mount on the axles will work with the wraith skid. Like I dunno if it will put the links at to much of an angle using the wraith skid. I looked all morning trying to find how far apart the upper and lower links mount on the skid with no luck. I do know the lower links and shocks with the mounts i have ordered will be 6 inched apart on the axle. What do you guys think?

The links will be at less of an angle using a wraith skid than an scx-10 skid.

Wasnt sure how big or small this body was. My bad....go woth Ar60s then? Clod axles are to bulky and imo are trash anyhow Sent from my LG-D852 using Tapatalk |

Im going with the wraith skid just for link mounting locations. Im taking the body off the old chassis tonight to get all the measurements for the new rails. I also took apart the axles tonight to re grease them and I must say I have to disagree with you my friend. I'm sure the axles are years old and the stock plastic gears looked beautiful, cases were a little worn but still have tons of life left. If the ar60 stock is anything like a stock scx10 there is no comparison. Within a year or so I had to replace the bearings, lockers, ring, and pinion. So in my opinion a clod axle stock will outlast the ar60 10 to 1. You are right they are bulky as a mo fo tho!

I have the rare version of this jeep and it takes 40 series tires to fill the holes.

I set the body up and put the axles underneath just to get an idea of what she would look like. I think the only prob I can see is there will not be much room in the rear for upper link mounts. the front is clear for days.
