Default Rare 1/6 Scale Jeep Project.

back in 2006 was a great year to buy 1/6 scale rc bodies. I bought 2 Jeeps one for my self and one for my nephew for Christmas. Well he is older and has no interest in the Jeep so I gave him 50 bucks and now I have both. I will be starting this project soon and thought I would share How I got it.
I haven't gone to my sisters to pick it up yet but I do have mine that I can show you. It's the black one.

It has huge wheel wells that let me run 40 series tires.

I'm thinking of using the wraith axles or the Kyosho axles that I built for the scorpion build I did.

Depends on where you want the tires in relation to the wheel wells. AR60's would be good if you want them inside, and I think you mentioned in your Scorpion build that the Kyosho axles were a bit wider, should you want the tires outside the wells.

The Wraith axles are a Pinch narrow and I think that it is the way to go with this one. I have some rims and tires that I think will make up for that.

Here is a picture of the jeep after is was built years ago. I used custom built Twin Force axles in this build. I might reuse them again. they just don't look that scale.

I have that same body. I ended up picking a few more up off ebay from time to time. Jeeps are addictive no matter what scale they are. lol! I love the pyramid Jeep tower photo. I have yet to start my build tho. I wish they would come back out with the 3.2 size tires/wheels as I felt that size was perfect for the 1:6 scale. The 40's are rather large imo. And the 2.8's are a bit to small for these jeeps.

Sure thing. Here is the red one that I got and a black one. Still in the process of cleaning up the black one and fixing some small cracks. Their both JK's.

Your welcome It was a bit of a shock to me when I found it but then I remembered another member having a red one and spraying it yellow. I think it was back in 2007 or so. These are really hard to find esp. in my area. But I was happy to find em. I just wish I had the mirrors instead of trying to make em.

Well (2) 1/6 Gladiator bodies are up for sale on flea Bay. 1 for 290.00 and the other 300.00. They are rare but to get the most out of them you need to be a skilled builder to buy one.
Here is the cut line that I did to mine to take out the ugly that this truck has.

I loose mine every now and again. I glue them back on. If I was to loose them and need to build them I would make them from aluminum so that they didn't break.

That definitely looks alot better.
I wanted to get one of these bodies when I first saw em as the 2.2's fit really well under it. But for that amount of cash. eeeek!!! I have to pass. lol!

Whatcha using to mend the body back together?

Ill have to try some different methods out on the mirrors. I have a few things in mind so if they fail Ill try out some aluminum as you suggested.

northkona has an excellent idea. If your making something (Scaled up of course) i would suggest this Swing-away mirror.

So who was the manufacturer of those RC's that you got the bodies from?

I bought both of mine at Walmart years ago. PLANET TOYS BRAND MADE IN 2006 JEEP GLADIATOR . They are plastic so the take a beating very well.
The Planet Toys web site is no longer online and according to a class action suit involving one of their non-RC toys, they filed a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Petition on March 18, 2009.

Thanks, I was also interested in the manufacturer of the TJ bodies.
