Default Micro PVC Beadlock Mod

This is as straight forward as it gets. I just downsided the idea and insructions from the Mini RC to the Micro RC. I did a sample on one wheel first to make sure all would hold and everything worked out and I completed the other 3 rims after all was kool. I added a wrap of solder to the rim under the PVC pipe. And since Losi used so much CA glue, that hardened the foam. And where it was rock hard it ripped chunks from inside the foam. Was going to star cut it but that went out the window. So I decided to flip them inside out and cut divits out with some scissors. The weight of the wheel now is about right. Works good for me. I used some plumming fittings I found at Lowes and cut them to 10.10 mm and beveled the inside edge of the cut side. Slip them together and bolt them up. Off to the rocks I go. Well here are the pics I took along the way. Enjoy.

PVC fitting with the EOM rims I took with me to Lowes.

Figured out the amount to cut the pipe. I cut to have some extra and then finished trim to fit.I don't have a lathe and or bandsaw type equipment. Dremel tool and a hacksaw about all I have.lol

Trimmed down and ready for a test fit.

Looks like a good fit.

I added a wrap of some solder I had in the garage.Better than nothing.

Test fit the beadlock ring to see the groove. All is well time for foam or not to foam, that is the question .With the weight of the rim now and no foams it set like a flat tire almost. So I modded the fubar'd foams to work.

Here is what I was left with when I got done ripping off the CA hardened foam. Then I decided to flip them inside out and trim some divits into the foams with some sharp scissors.

So now it was time to put the pieces back together and see if it works or not. Seems to me the beadedge should fit in there well and do it's job. Let's see.

With all the screw tightened and set I give it a good tug and pull to see if it will pop out on me but it holds it's ground and I am happy with the results.

Here I have 2 finished and 2 that are stock. Can you tell me what 2 are Locked and what 2 are not?? lol

Good mood! I figured this could be done. I've just been waiting for someone like you to do it and figure out all of the measurements. I guess that pvc adds a good bit of weight to those wheels. Have you taken it for a test run yet?

...very cool, but almost seems like it may be just a tad too much weight...?

If it's too much weight he can always remove some or all of the solder. How about some measurements on weight Wrench, got a scale? If not head to Walmarts self-checkout line.

Could also drill holes in the PVC to reduce weight.

and the 2 on the left are stock

what did i win?

Do you mind telling me what size fittings those are or what size pipe I could use? In one of the pictures it looks like it says 3/4 PVC/PVC Adapter Coupler, is that correct?

Yes it is 3/4 PVC plumbing couplers from Lowes. It has the SKU # in the picture for you. Not a problem.

And it is the 2 n the left that are locked.

Here is a vid of the current setup.

Nominal width of 0.435" is too wide, bead doesn't seat enough for the rings to go flat on the rim. Also it pushes the bead out too far and looks weird. Little fine tuning on the width and it'll be perfect!

I like the mod, great find! They do go airtight.

Sorry to hear you are having a bit of trouble, lets see if we can fix it for you. I did one side of the rim at a time so they don't fight each other. I also started 2 screws opposite each other on the beadlock rings. Slowly worked those 2 screws about 1/2 way in and then started the other screws.Once all were started I tightened them in a criss/cross pattern. Also check the stock Losi beadlock ring is seated in the slots in the rim. On the backside of the rings there are little pertruding nipps that set into slots on the rim. I missed a few of those the first time and it did not fully seat and lock together. Also make sure of your measurments on the PVC if it is to narrow it will not lock in the tire as well. My bud did that to his and has to make 4 new PVC rings. HtH.

I had the same trouble. My mistake was just eyeing the PVC. I had no good measuring tool to get the right thickness. I ended up just gluing them back on.

Is the inner bead edge held in place by anything?

The bead is sandwiched between the PVC & the 'lock rings on both sides of the wheel.

looks simple enough.. going to do this... last night i just put a dab of glue on 4 spots for my sons Losi Trekker.. putting Baja Claws on.. only did 2 tires so will finish his this way.. but will get another set of rims to do my boggers for when i get a trekker...

so using solder for weights will work.. guess I wont be able to use the wheel weights I have as they are taller and will block the pvc from going on....
