I was thinking a tuber as well, but for proper scale/looks, you'd need really tiny rod. I think 1/8od would be the biggest you'd want to go

if you use metal rod it will be heavy for its size im thinking about useing some 1/8" styrene rod and using lots of bracing it should be plenty strong considering the weight |

perhaps 1/16 brass tube or wire, 1/8 is what I used for link covers and it's still pretty big for this scale

Allright im gonna check on some 1/8 brakeline today...Its gonna be a pretty basic design so I dont think it will be too heavy...This is a tuber I built for my mini rock crawler last year. Im shootin for something similar just a little better...lol Oh yeah i need to strectch the wheelbase about a half inch or so for this body im wanting to use. Which rod ends and all thread do I need? Will I have to make new upper links too? And what about driveshafts will they need to be longer too? if so how do I stretch them? sorry ive got alot of questions but Im just comin back from a pretty long break from crawling and Im trying to make sure I remember how to do all this stuff right before I go hackin up my brand new micro...lol Last edited by parker88; 12-28-2009 at 11:13 AM. |

what about metal coat hangers, if you get the kind with the plastic dipped coating, you can pull the coating off and its solderable. |

Dubro makes a lot of threaded rod stock, that most shops will carry. It's open stock too so it'll be easy to eyeball up -- or maybe the employees will know what the good combinations are. When I worked the the LHS we became accustomed to what the common requests were.

I've done a couple of partial tubers on the micros: Metal Fume Fabrication - Micro Truggy Tuber CGR micro truggy tuber Can't remember the exact diameter of the rod I used, but much smaller than 1/8" even. For a full tuber body, I'd say 1/8" at the most. These guys are quite small already, and even a small amount of weight makes a big difference. |
