Default Movng top links to address steering

So, I have the Hitec 65 servo and the throw seems to be a lot more than the stock servo. As a result, I am getting a lot of binding of the wheel against the upper link. I am also running droopped which makes it even worse. Have any of you moved the upper links to the inside of the chassis to get more room? I tried with the stock links but the ball joints aren't reversable to I will be looking at getting some mrc ball joints.

I'm gonna give you and other newbies the best info. search through others builds and see how they are doing it. The best way to understand setups is to learn and try.

I tried in-boarding the rear upper links but it messed with articulation. Up front, the shocks will get in the way of in-boarding the uppers, but some homemade links may gain you a few more mm's in clearance.

With that reply I am rethinking seeing about buying one of those nice vee dub bodies you make. I have also tried to reduce the max on the steering setting but modding it to do what I want sounded a lot more fun. And I get to buy new parts if I change to the mrc ball joints.

I was looking at my uppers thinking about how to adress the tire rub when I made my bent lower links. The only thing I could think of was making the upper bent up over the tire then back down to the frame side mount. It would be an ugly looking link but it might work. The next thing would be your shocks. There isn't much space between the shocks aand the links so you may get some rubbing there. If you do get some small washers and try to space the ball studs out from the mounts with them. Hope that helps.

i dont think dogbreath was meaning to be mean or trying to flame, but i cant speak for him. there are tons of stuff people tend to over look. it happens. just trying to help. mine does this as well, but i think new links are the way to go. i tried the trim but then i dont get full steering throw.not enough to bother me though.

Did you happen to use a different servo horn than the stock one??? If so then what it sounds like is you have the steering link mounted too far from the center of the servo.

Love it.

but...

Im not sure a single one of my radio's doesnt have one of thoes little dials to reduce your stering %. Wheel it down, dont have to "dont turn so far" just turn down the value.

I am using the hitec servo horn without a servo saver and that did increase my steering angle a little. I would really like to keep the sharper angle, especially if I don't have to go to a 4WS setup. I still may go with 4WS since I have the stock servo (may use it for a dig for my 2.2 that does have 4WS). My biggest concern with moving the upper links would be a reduction in the stability of the rig due to a lack of triangulation between the upper (parallel links) and lower links. Ultimately I think I will be going with a custom chassis that allows the lower links to have more triangulation, pulls the upper link inboard and also pull the shocks inboard so they meet at the center-line of the truck.

I do appreciate the replys concerning the subject matter. Thanks you.
