Default Micro Mosi in progress

I had this killer idea and just tried it, I think it'll work quite well and figured I'd post up looking for some input. I just need to find and mount the gears for reduction and test it but I'm hopeful. This won't be possible for the front unless I can re-locate the servo, no luck finding a way to do that yet so I'll probably just leave the front shafty and MOA the rear. At least I can use an electronic dig switch this way. Anyway, on to the pictures. The 3rd picture shows where I plan on mounting the reduction gears. Any feedback, good or bad, is welcome......

Good idea.

It would be tough but maybe you could just find a low RPM/high torque motor to output directly into the axle instead of above it.
You'd probably have to make a shim to fit the worm gear on the motor shaft but if you can find the right parts, then you might be able to run the steering servo still.

I was thinking the same thing with using a high torque motor and have more of a behind the axle setup. I was thinking an entire bracket that replaces the servo mounts. Possibly use a reduction gear on the worm gear shaft to help more with the motor issue.

Love the ingenuity though.
How thick is the plate you are using.

It's just some delrin I had laying around, 3/32 of an inch I believe. This is just for mock up, the final version will most likely be aluminum.

I also found some gears that might work, I just need to figure out how I want to mount them. This is turning out to be easier than I thought when I started but I'm sure that'll change.

I have two of those going into an (non-losi) MOA rig.
Mini/Micro - MOA - Scratch Build

Held in with 2mm screws into the brass end plate. I stripped one already.
Jumping from the 100:1 to the 150:1 versions now.

Mine are from Pololu. Vegas area, fast shipping.

They have others that are slightly bigger, not geared as low, that look planetary and are enclosed.

Quick questions about the gearbox, do you use a servo motor or the micro motor that comes with the crawler, is the output shaft the same size as the mini crawlers output shaft, and are the holes used to mount the gearbox in the same place as the ones on a mini motor? I don't know if it will work for my next project, and an any info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks nic

This is a very cool project. You have to have a lot of patience to do this, especially on a vehicle so small!
