Default Jeremy's Micro

Well, I got this Micro for Christmas and immediately commenced with the desktop crawling!

Time for the mods!

I clipped a few coils from the upper part of the springs, cut down the chassis braces, removed the ESC case, moved the battery to the rear axle and added a new servo. The new servo wires are quite a bit more malleable than the stock wires and seem to inhibit flex much less. Then I pulled the front tires, cut down the inner part of the foams and added a few wraps of solder. I also drilled out the air holes in the rim to a slightly larger size.

Then I needed some juice for this bad boy. Jason at Krawler Hobbies sent me out this Thunder Power 250mAh 2S lipo:

Wow! This pack really packs quite a punch and picked up the speed of this crawler quite a bit. I really like the low end control as well! I should know a total runtime sometime tomorrow.

Yeah, I am loving this pack. Also, I dont notice any tranny binding anymore. Not sure if it is due to the new pack and wheelspeed or me tightening the slipper up, but either way, it is almost elminiated.

Glad to see that everything made it to you and is working out!! There does not seem to be much of a size differance in the two packs, except for the added wheel speed and drive time you get out of the lipo! Keep the action pictures coming and let us know how the 2S is doing on there...

Ok....after 20 minutes of driving this thing (mostly full throttle) I had to come back inside. I started with a full 2S charge (8.4V) and I just checked the voltage of the pack.......7.4V! Not even close to the 6.0V cutoff for the pack! I'll let the pack sit until later and try to run it completely down...

Thats awesome news! These Thunder Power packs from Krawler Hobbies sound great, I'm looking forward to trying my new 1.9 and 2.2 packs!

Yeah, I've been running these TP packs on all of my rigs now and loving them.

BTW, I forgot to add that after my earlier run, none of the electronics were even remotely warm.

Ok....after another run, it seems that I am getting about a 40 minute runtime on these packs (of course, that will vary depending on driving conditions) before the lipo cutoff (yes, I said lipo cutoff) on the stock ESC kicks in at 6.2V. Needless to say, I am happy!

you should post a video.
also do you have a suggestion for a good lipo charger that won't cost just as much as the crawler itself? ha ha

I'll head out to some real rocks on the weekend...the weather should be nicer (it's raining here right now)....and I'll make sure to take my video camera with me.

As for a charger....I'm not sure. I use my Hyperion 606I with a micro deans adapter. I am sure that there are other chargers out there that are much cheaper and will work just as well.

(sorry to get off topic)

back on topic...

nice job on the rig! did drilling the air holes in the rims to a larger diameter help the tires conform better? i never thought of doing that... also does your ESC run cooler with case removed when running the lipo?

Yeah, the larger holes definitely help. When you squeeze the tires, you dont hear the air rushing out. Not sure if the ESC runs cooler, but it sure is lighter!

Hey, nice Rig! I'm planning on getting a lipo pack similar to that one you got! How many coils did you cut off of those springs, if any. Oh btw, it's K2runner from t4r.org. I plan on posting pics of my mcrc here soon.

Hey, good to see you on here! That's cool on the lipo....just make sure you get a new connector for it and convert your ESC's connector as well....the TP packs wont mate up with the stock connector. I used Micro Deans for both. They are extremely easy to solder up!

Yeah, your build is cool! It sure had those 4Runner guys drooling!

I picked up this truggy bed from Ecoli and painted up a new body:

I plan to make a bed and mount the battery under the bed.
