Do it. I mean how many hanger do you have in you closet. I have like 40, so its worth a try. If it dosent work your only out a hanger.

if its gonna be structural i'd go with something a bit stronger than a brass or copper coat hanger maybe some small steel rod

I was just fooling around with coat hangers a couple nights ago.. pretty close to a scale tube for this rig, makes for a good solid joint when joined with harris 56 silver solder. I made a bumper for my Slamurai project but i wasnt too happy with the design so I scrapped it... |

A mig will warp coat hanger solder is nice for making a tuber. You want small tacks. And we all know that you cant control or modify a oversized mig tack on something sooooo small. You can file extra solder down, instead of grind.

To be honest I think a mig is a bad idea. I have been welding for years and have built a few tubers on here out of brake line. I actually used to use coat hangers as filler metal when doing oxy-accetelyne welding. I have a small map gas / oxy set-up at home and tried just heating the coat hanger material together...it works well. After the rig is built it wouldn't hurt to go over the joints with solder but good luck soldering onto something that melts at almost the same temperature. I am building a coat hanger tuber now and it looks like the map gas / oxy set-up is going to work great. as I heat up the pieces just to the melting point and then remove the heat, the two pieces join together with descent strength. just my opinion There are many ways to get it done. I will post some pics soon to show my method of madness. |

when i mentioned a mig i was referring to using steel rod as i had mentioned before seriously i dont know if anyone is dumb/ballsy enough to try to weld coathangers together with a mig

IMO even the coat hanger material is a little small for the micro. Scale wise it looks like u r running 1" tubing for a frame or cage. It's good enough and easy to work with but still not perfect. I hope it WAS a joke to run mig wire Although I would love to watch a video of someone trying |
