Default Tail Rotor Motors?

I saw a post the other day on here where someone showed a tail rotor motor #CN12-RXC that he was trying to sell "illegally". That post is now gone...surprise!!!

In that post he mentioned a guy that had used it in a build. I tried finding that post on the build and couldn't.

Does anyone know how well these motors work and if they are a good option? He did state that it had more torque and never got hot...that got me interested.

Default Motor

I picked one up off of EBay will try it out soon. The motor is definitely not a direct drop in replacement. The mounting holes are closer together than the stock motor, plus it has a pretty big bushing where the armature comes out of the motor case.

Does anyone happen to know what model/size the stock motor is? You can be sure it's not a custom size. Find that out and the options will open up.

Seems like you are talking about helicopter outrunner motors

these are the only ones Ive seen used in the losi micro
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=6312

They are so cheap i picked up 2 with a bigger order a while ago but haven't had my crawler back together to try them
keep in mind for most if not all of the micro out runner motors you will need to cut and modify the motor mounts

the one i linked you will need to remove a clip off the shaft so you can slide the shaft to the other end of the motor

do an advanced search in the Losi micro area and the Micro scale forum for "outrunner" and "out runner"
you will find a few posts of people who run the same motor. One goes into more detail on how to move the shaft

they are not talking about brushless motors. they are a brushed motor for the tail rotor to a heli that looks like a longer version of the stock motor

Does anyone know any other brands of longer tailrotor motor? I'm about to place an order from RPP and they don't carry this one.

I used that motor in a build. It's not a direct fit. As you know the stock motor has flat sides. The cn12 does not, so the tranny housing will need some trimming. Also the screw holes do not line up. So the motor plate need new holes. Also you need to solider the connector for the esc.

this motor is slower and has more torque than stock. and mine gets HOT!

hope this helps

Just what I was looking for. I'm concerned if it gets hot. You say it's slower but is it stronger? Like driveline breaking torque or just slightly better than stock?

I would say just right on the torque. Although I never used it with the stock drive shafts. There is a heat sink you can get for it.
