Put a resistor in my setup? It's going to drain the battery?
It will drain the battery faster, overheat the LED and could even cause problems with the battery. Try taking a 2mm LED to a fresh 9v battery and holding the LED between your fingers while it's connected.

Did you do it yet? ...get's really hot.

When I made my headlights for my F-150 Micro, I drilled a small hole (just big enough to hold my bulbs) and added a small bit of clear RTV silicone to hold them in place. I just bought two replacement bulbs for a micro mag light. i soldered leads to the bulbs and ran them off a rechargeable AAA battery hidden in the bed. I connected the battery with a Deans micro plug and just soldered leads to the battery ends. Worked quite well and the lights would last a long time. You can find the bulbs at any Radio Shack....
