Default Soldering brass questions?

Hey when building tubers out of brass how do you solder it? My last attempt with it I used a tourch like sweating copper lines. But as soon as I would try the next joint the first would fall off.

Check out my tuber build thread.
Its brass and soldered.
I used cheap radioshack lead free solder and a 40watt ungar iron.

Flux both surfaces, tin the iron and heat the surfaces.
Once both surfaces are tinned they will bond when they cool.
I used a wire soldering "third hand" rig with two alligator clips on a stand to
hold the chassis pieces in place while I heated them. Feeding solder into the joint
while they are hot will build it up making it stronger.

Flux, solder, and the third hand assy came from radioshack.

I use the "helping hands" tool all the time when I solder. Makes working on wiring and tubing a whole lot easier, plus they usually have a magnifying glass i you're working on really small stuff.

you will have to get something to act as a heatsink. I bought 2 spring closed tweezers that work well from LHS. With these I can bond the tubing about 2mm from a previous joint. I use a small torch BTW.

so I guess you can solder a regular 3/16 rod with tin solder and electric iron? That would be great for inside..no torch and no smoke or crappy odor...you guys got a specific soldering tip for that? I have a hakko 936...I guess it could do the job when temp is ajusted to the max?

i was using the 1/4inch wide tip to heat the joints.
the third hand "helping hand" thing is a must.
i moved from the iron to a small butane torch.
rough up the contacting surfaces a little, tin them, place them together, heat them and feed solder into the joint..
instant tuber.
