Default Wiring Size

I am preparing to rewire my McRC with Micro Dean's plugs and new wires. The stock wires are stiff and keep breaking and they are too short to keep repairing. What gauge should I get? The Xcelorin battery I use has 22 gauge wiring. I've found some silicone wrapped 22 gauge online, but I was thinking of stepping up to 20 gauge for less resistance. Atomic Mods also sells very thin 18 gauge silicone wrapped wire and it's really cheap. What gauge wire do people run on their McRCs?

PS, I tried using solid core wire from Radio Shack and it was awful. Broke right away and the wires are too stiff to let the chassis flex. Very disappointed.

Hi, I swapped out the motor can connection wires to 20 AWG silicon when I converted the motor connection and battery connection to micro deans. For the lipo/battery connection, I think 22-24 AWG silicon is ok. 22-24 should also be fine for any other connections besides the motor can wires. Using thicker than 20 AWG would be too thick inside such a micro body even though it still is very flexible as the silicon insulation diameter beefs up taking up space.

I do highly recommend updating to silicon wires as they are tons more flexible.

I used 18ga silicone wire I got cheap from Hobby King ... used for batteries, ESC (motor, battery connectors), bought 10' of red/black a year ago and had lots left.

Ebay 22gauge silicone. Ive used ebay20gauge and atomic mods superflex 18 wire, left over from my XMod days. at these speeds and power levels you wont notice a difference on most setups going thicker than 22

When your soldering keep an eye on the positive input/output .... They are quite close and may accidently bridge if you're not careful. I just did another one (for Babybooger) that we super tight, I used a paring knife as a seperator when I soldered them this time.

Thanks. Soldering is actually a skill I am very good with. I've wired up a number of R/Cs and one race car and over the summer I will be rewiring my project car (a 1990 Nissan 240SX).
