Default Riks Jeep (another Jeep body lol)

so i scored another micro about 2 weeks ago. came with 2 bodies. the black chevy was the body that the previous owner was using. i decided to go with the jeep body. when i took the chevy body off i found that the front end was pretty much broken off. (2nd pic you can see what i mean) i got some more 2-56 threaded rod and will makes some new links. its running a T-Pro MG90S servo. esc/rx still stock. i may try the big block mod on this one as there is plenty of room for the motor and a new esc and rx.. we'll see'. also, im gonna make a scale chassis. this will be a slow build as i have the 2.2, 1.9, and the micro comper to focus on.

so i got this rig sitting on its own. :o finally. for now i kept the stock chassis. velcro holds the body on. i still have to shorten the wheel base up a tad. i got to run a whole pack thru it last night. it's a blast to drive.

these bodies are perfect for these axles. the wheels tuck up in to the wells perfect.

also found some cool little scale tools. just gotta paint them (lol these were "donated" by my 3 yr old, from her lego set)

Wow, that's a really nice looking rig rik.

Wonder if that body size can be found in a 4-door

thanks. i got a lot of plans for it. but just wanted to get the thing moving on its own lol.. i'm not sure about a four door. its a body from a "road-rippers" toy. here's a link for this body in particular. i went thru all the listings the other day to see what else they have, but didnt see a four door.

did a little more work on this tonight. i got the wheel base just about nailed. i had to make a new set of rear links. i also ditched the springs and am running full droop. i'll use some rubber bands or hair ties to limit the shocks as it has way too much articulation.

What have/do you do about the button holes in the lid? I have perused the toy aisle with my kids and checked those out, damn good details in them. I kinda want to do a replica Redjacket JK/Brute build.

Well, you have to options for filing in the holes. The first is tamiya body putty..its bondo for the dc world. Ya fill the hole and sand smooth..

The second is styrene. Since the body is abs, tenax-7r will make the syrene "weld" together with the body. I must sand or file some drops of styrene into powder, then mix with tenax. This will give you body filler. Fill the hole with it. When dry sand smooth. Becareful as tenax melts the styrene and the body. That's how it welds it together. So don't get messy with i. The red body pictured has both tenax/styrene filler and tamiya body putty on it. The larger hole on the door has the putty, the smaller one on the door by the front tire has styrene..hope this helps..

Or, lol, you can make a roof rack and cover those large holes with scale accessories. Which is what i plan on doing with the blue body. I have too many other bodies that need body work done. I dont feel like throwing this on the pile...

That's a good idea. I've seen a few 2.2 jeeps with the moon roof. So yea, there is four options. Good call bud.

On the red one, what is left of the roof, comes off. Exposing the whole inside. I chopped it to do the roll cage. But, I cut it nice and straight with a thin cut off wheel on the dremel. This way it goes back on..

another option for filling the holes would be tape the backside, fill holes with baking soda, takes something like a razor blade to scrape extra soda away, drip super glue onto soda. Instant dry hard as any bodyfiller. Might have to do it in thinner layers of soda so the SG soaks all the way into it. repeat. Used it on my road rippers jeep build...worked just fine and paint will stick to sanded super glue.

Not sure if you all can look at this without being a member of scale4x4 or not???

The dodge I have is the same way. I just cut out a rectangle and then put in a piece of black plastic and made a fake sunroof.
