i know exactly what you mean spoo http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/micro...2-hilux-3.html about half way down 3rd page. i cant fit the losi trans under the hood however i cant if i want to run the servo in there as well

Re: Mastah Kyler's Chevy Silverado

Wonder if the weight difference would justify mounting the servo like I did. to keep the motor and transmission forward....
on second thought no, that's a lot more work than it's worth. :P Stick with the front mounted servo.

Re: Mastah Kyler's Chevy Silverado

and i would have no where to put it without doing the same thing to the interior for the possible idea of a losi trans

Re: Mastah Kyler's Chevy Silverado

ok ill tease :ror: got a couple ideas from a couple members over at scale4x4. im going to use the losi trans to run to the sumo tcase then a behind trans servo bellcrank style. heres step 1 to mounting the losi trans. my plan is to put brass around the wheel well to mount that piece of brass as well as have a good anchor for my bumper which is days away still.

Will be interesting to see how it clears the top of the front shock, Since it has that flat section I just imagine under hard flex it will hit something.

what do you mean?

Re: Mastah Kyler's Chevy Silverado

sigh, said one thing meant another. I mean the center of the axle. not the shocks. :P

Re: Mastah Kyler's Chevy Silverado

It shouldn't but ill do some testing. It is for the most part centered so the axles will just roll around it

Re: Mastah Kyler's Chevy Silverado

Picked up some materials and mounted up the rear axle. Im a little stumped on how to mount the front. its not quite as simple as the rear. maybe a 3 link panhard? what do you guys think? awaiting some parts from a generous member to finish up the sumo tcase. and almost done mounted the losi trans. im hoping to realistically finish by christmas

Re: Mastah Kyler's Chevy Silverado

you are going to have to do a steering setup like my jeep! I can give you details on how I did it and picture if you want.
because I dont think a servo will fit under the hood and under the transmission at the current ride height the rear sits at... will it?

Or is that not the issue?

edit: C'mon, all these pictures and non with a mockup of the body on top!?

Re: Mastah Kyler's Chevy Silverado

you know i was actually thinking of using a wire for steering like yours! i was having a deep thought about it in bed last night and was thinking this would be the easiest route. i had already planned on putting the servo under the rear seats shortly after deciding to use the losi trans as well. does yours work like a bicycle break cable? i will put up a mock up after i mount the losi trans "thumbsup"

Re: Mastah Kyler's Chevy Silverado

I thought about bike brake cable first, but it was a lot of cable for a very small truck. I went to Ace Hardware and found they sold it by the foot (wire only), but you need to take off a few winding so it is thin enough to flex. You'll also need a coffee straw or tube that is mounted once to the axle, and frame to allow the wire to move through, and not just bend under pressure! and longer isn't always bad! my first mistake was to make it short and it twisted and had bump steer! (although I probably just built it wrong) which is why it has to reach across from the left side of the truck to the front right knuckle.

:D I have a bazillion pictures... but I am sure you've probably seen most of them.

For thoes who read this and have NOT seen....
here is what we're talking about.
Front:
http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0e51ff76.jpg

Under the hood:
http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5bb2bfc2.jpg

inside:http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...2/77ea6639.jpg
http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...psae8d7c9f.jpg

Works perfectly now. and although it means I have more weight in the center of the truck, It allowed me to fit a 4-link is a ridiculously tight space. this picture does not include the shocks mounted under the hood or all the weights I added under there too!

All my best ideas are moments before sleep. the next morning all I remember is I had this really super awesome idea that would totally work and it was to..... ah crap....

Re: Mastah Kyler's Chevy Silverado

do you get enough torque out of the wire? the wire slides fine? i wish i could see it in person!

Re: Mastah Kyler's Chevy Silverado

here is an example of the bellcrank cantilever setup I mentioned earlier.
the top link going from the servo to the lever is self explanatory of course, the other lever is mounted underneath and it goes to the linkage that looks like a shock
