Jim's Specter! O.o

EDIT - If your reading this for the first time, I am putting the link to the vendor page here.

Thought I would go ahead and start the official Specter thread. The first render here still has some obvious errors, but it's close enough to share and start the thread. The segments are mostly 0.125" now, but I may go to 0.100" in the roof section. I'm leaving off the bumpers till I get the chassis mated with the drive train. There are a few nudges here and there but very close.

such a tease!!!! I like this one better too, when can you start printing some to sell unless you need a tester??? that would be nice.

Here is the latest revision. It has several changes that really finish it off perfectly. The next step is to add the upper link mounts and the tranny mount. This one was relatively easy to put together. :D

Thanks for all the good words everyone. :D

It is pretty much done. Now onto making the skins.

3D Systems was not able to make their promised December 28th ship date. In fact I am still waiting for a solid ship date. I purchased the new MAX version that wasn't "released" until mid December so I knew it was going to be close anyway. :P

Things take time damn it... :D

I will post more full renders today if I can. "thumbsup"

Yep. This is awesome! I want one...

Re: Jim's Specter! O.o

Sitting a little high, not sure why yet. It's got the mini-t? rear springs soft in front, and medium in rear. I will check the spring lengths and make sure the servo clears in full compression. These renders are using stock McRC axles and tires. We will be adding the trekker parts and aftermarket tires to the renders soon.

I like it alot too!

I wonder how this would look? Just thinking the curves would break up the square lines a little and also look like rounded fender wells? Just toying around "thumbsup"

Re: Jim's Specter! O.o

I'm not sure what photobucket does to my files. They are 1920 pixels wide when uploaded. I could email you something?

Hi Dan, yeah you got the idea. I will achieve the effect in the rear at least with the skins. I'm going to do this stocker, then one with the rear modified like everyone does to the Wraith, then start on some smooth rounded lines on a southern buggy style.

Thanks again for all the interest.

I like it square like a jeep xj or bronco tuber

I have cash on a card as soon as you print them! Sign me up. I have my own chassis design coming along, but I'll build one of these too!

Very cool, Definitely want one of those!

Intashu 01-07-2013 05:00 PM

Re: Jim's Specter! O.o

I like it square. with the hood would reach over the front more, like just up to the servo and... maybe even add a mount for a pair of bucket lights under where the grill would in theory go. Just to tie it all together like the full sized wraith.:flipoff:

edit: looking more at the images though, you would need to stretch the center forward more too. The whole chassis looks a little too far back minus the area around the transmission mounts. it may not need to stretch over the servo. but maybe if you offset it forward a little more.
Just my personal taste however. dont want to waste your time doing a render if other people disagree! D:

extra edit: what does it look like with a droop setup? I bet it would be cool low and ground hugging.

Fungi 01-07-2013 08:15 PM

Re: Jim's Specter! O.o

Been thinking about the comments. If I made the changes then it's no longer a Wraith tribute, but something else. I've tried to duplicate the look and feel with only pictures to go by. >.< I've posted a side by side. ;)

I've corrected the height problem and it's sitting closer to real life. It will actually sit a little lower as the springs compress. It's semi-drop. :D

Re: Jim's Specter! O.o

I like this a LOT more than the other offering. When you said you were going to do a tribute to the Wraith, I was a bit disappointing that it wasn't going to be an original design. Now I am a completely looking forward to seeing some builds, and possibly doing one myself. IT LOOKS GREAT!

It should, there is a lot of room around the engine. :D

I lowered the suspension to what it will be in real life. The spring length was set to the unloaded length. We aren't doing simulations, so I had to set them manually. Now it is setting at semi-droop as it would with the mini-t front shock springs on losi stock shocks. Here is a more accurate look of how it sits. It was easy once my buddy showed me how. :D

Haha You'll be alright... "thumbsup"

Here is a render of it in full droop. There is enough room in the front of the hood for headlights. We can probably do more in the rear if the battery is inside and not on the rear axle.

I'm not sure why it is hovering, I'll figure it out. Haha :flipoff:

Two questions:
1) what is the wheel base you are displaying? Stock Trekker?

2) Is it hard to stretch the wheel base and show a pic just for fun? I would really like to see it stretched out a little "thumbsup"

She is clocking in at 4.81" wheelbase. Not sure what the stock trekker is.

I will find out how hard it is to lengthen the links soon, it's the next step. "thumbsup"

Here are some more renders at full droop. I figured out how to turn the front wheels. :D

The next image illustrates the clearance above the servo.

http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4cea07cd.jpg

Here is the rear. You can put a battery on the rear axle, but no way for a rear bumper. If the battery is inside the cage we should be able to replicate the same rear setup as it's bigger cousin.
