If i see that the wires will be to long i will open the Servo, desolder the Wires, cut to desired lenght an solder them back to original place in the Body of the Servo. This is the cleanest way an you dont ad stiffnes to the wire were you put in a new solderpoint. Or you cut the Wire and crimp on a new conector. If i have no space, i had desolder the pins on the TX an solder the Servolead direkt on the PCB from TX. Gives you more space for more elektronics ;) But for shure, thats three different ways and you dont have to do all in same Rig XD Last edited by DFD; 09-21-2015 at 03:50 PM. |

On my Yeti build I had to cut my servo leads and crimp on new connectors to make room in the radio box. I don't solder unless I have to. You can pick up the servo connectors pretty cheap online. The crimp tool was like $20.

I've killed my ESC with my mongoloid soldering iron in an attempt to shorten the wiring. I did the battery first-OK. Next I did the motor-OK. I saved the servo wire for last and looks to have burnt the board some and now it doesn't work. Any suggestions for a good solder station got these small electronics. The one I have works well for auto projects, but not the micro electronics. I'd go up to maybe $50-60. |

i have the Solderstation "LS128" 8W, bought @Amazon for about 20-25$ shipped. got a bigger ajustable solderstation for ~90$, so its a perfekt match vor tyny SMD-work. But you can do any soldering work on a micro with the ls-128 |

I couldn't find that particular one on fleaBay or Amazon. I read up on this Weller: "Weller WLC100 40-Watt Soldering Station" and if I get a small tip it would supposedly be an all around station. Tomorrow I'm headed to the old part of town and there's an electronics store over there. It's been there 80 something years and has anything imaginable and only the expensive higher end of it. I'll see what station(s) they have and proceed from those findings. |

I went by my little store and all they have is Weller, but no stations. 'Fresh out' he said.

That'll be my next alternative. I was hoping for something now and not having to wait in bits and pieces to come in.

| Re: Cut servo wires? Weller WES51. I used a WLC100 all throughout college. Its an alright station; certainly a big jump over the standard Radioshack style all-in-one irons. But it's not even in the same league as the WES51. It feels like a toy in comparison. The feel, the build quality, and the performance of the WES51 are worth way more than the difference in price would lead you to believe. For example: The WLC100 takes about 10 minutes to heat up. The WES51? About 30 seconds. And its not even that much more. You're looking at $86 versus $38. Buy once, cry once. The WES51 will last you a lifetime. And as much as we all spend on our RC's, we owe it to ourselves to protect our invests by using good tools. |

Oh yeah I forgot to add: the temperature control on the WLC100 is a joke. Only two of the notches are even remotely useful, and half the time I had to crank it way past the 5 - into unmarked territory - to get good heat output. The WES51 has an actual, useful dial. AND it keeps the tip at a constant temperature. All things you want when working with sensitive electronics. |
