Default Little

So, I picked up a pair of TLT axles w/ the intention of building myself a 1.9er for the new comp class. After messing w/ them and some 0 offset wheels, I just couldn't get them under the legal width limit and I wasn't to keen on the idea of cutting the CVDs or the SS solid axles to narrow them.

So I did some horse trading and picked up a used Losi MRC to use as my base.

After it came in, I give the rig a once over to see just what all the excitement has been about w/ these little rigs. I have to say, I was fairly impressed w/ the rig. But, I could see that Losi had left a lot on the table in the performance department and I started to formulate my plan to transform the sedate little crawler into a snarling comp rig.

First I contacted K9 and picked up one of his limited edition Lap Dog chassis, I then dug through my parts bin and dug up a new more potent motor, I found an Axial servo plate and mounted up a new Hitec 645MG to replace the stock servo which is inadequate for hard core comp use. I proceeded to convert the stock wheels into bead-locks and cut down a set of 2.2 Panther Cougars into 1.9s. The Cougars are just about 4 inches tall. I used some 2 stage foams meant for a 2.2 buggy and added 3 ozs to each front wheel.

With the chassis, motor, steering, and traction department squared away, I dug up a set of 3Racing MLST shocks to use. Several others have used these shocks and I really like them. They lowered the ride height and reduced the articulation over the stock shocks, plus w/ their shorter length, they help to lower the ride height and help compensate for the added height the Panthers added.

Once my Lap Dog arrived, I did a preliminary build. The full size servo reduces the amount of room available up front, so I ordered a nice small 2S 800mah lipo to sit on the front links. I mounted the Rx on the rear links and the ESC ended up on the rear axles. Not sure if everything will stay in it's current location or not.

After a little test run, the added traction of the Panthers and the new power from the motor was to much for the tranny and I rounded off the plastic diff locking keys. I have it tore down and I have parts on order. I hope to upgrade to metal gears in the tranny and the axles soon.

Anyways, that's were I'm at on this build. I'm waiting on parts at the moment so I'm waiting to tear it down for the final build.

Couple of quick pics.

Thanks, the looks of the tire are low on my priority list.

Plus I love crawling past all of the rigs w/ pretty tires.

The chassis will be blued.

I'll cut and paint panels, haven't settled on a scheme just yet.

I like everything except for the stance in the second photo. It sits lower in the back. It looks like you need shorter shocks up front. The oversize tires look cool. I'm sure it will rock (no pun intended) when you get it up and running again. Nice job!

Yeah, I noticed the stance, I'll get that squared away on the final build.
