Default Axle Slop

Both my front axles and rear axles allow the wheels to move before engaging the gears. I have the CVD's up front and the straight axle in the rear and metal diff lockers. From tearing the axles apart it seems as though there is a little wiggle room in the metal diff locker. Is this normal? This causes issues when I am in an area where I need very fine control over the movement.

After locking a few of these axles with different setups. I have come to see that it is gonna happen no matter what. I have used all three top lockers(losi, HR, and RCBros). All of them move some. I haven't gotten into any tight areas to have a problem with it out here though. Sorry to burst your bubble. But I thought I would chime in.

Theres alot of play in the ring and pinion gears. Try shimming your gears so it moves the r&p closer together.
I did my rear axle and it made a big difference. my front will roll about 1.5" and the rear only about .5"

Stupid question time! What do you use for shims, and do you put then inboard or outboard of the bearing?

I used some shims a had left over from my buggy. You could use washers if you found the right size or order up a diff shim kit of some kind, mine was from a Kyosho Inferno.

I put the shims inboard of the bearing but I don't see why it wouldn't work either way.
