I used a leather punch and put an 1/8 inch hole in the tires. DarkSoul also recommends that you can drill holes in the plastic rings and that will allow air to pass through.

I used the hot tip of my soldering iron to make a couple holes in each tire. Cut and seals it off at the same time.

It all depends on what tires you have. I have the Bashers and they have tread that allowed me to punch a hole inside a raised tread portion so its not in an area that would be ripped possibly.

Any reason in particular you don't want to drill through the ring?

It's plastic. Piece of cake. Not hard to do, no damage to the look of the wheel.

Then you don't have to do all your tires if you change down the road.
